Elise Phillips is having a solo show at Church Street Gallery beginning March 1.

March is charging in like a lion this year, with a First Friday full of openings and art events throughout the Brandywine Valley. From retrospectives to archives, local scenes to far-off landscapes, explore every facet of the human experience through artistic perspectives.

Church Street Gallery brings popular local artist Elise Philips in for a Solo Show from March 1 to 23. An opening cocktail reception will be held March 1 during First Friday in Downtown West Chester, with free on-street parking and events throughout the town. The Church Street Gallery is at 12 S. Sea Turtle by Carol Mangano at Howard Pyle Studio

The Howard Pyle Studio Group and the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science present Still Life from Natural Life during the Wilmington Art Loop on March 1 from 5 to 8 pm. All works were painted at the museum using the natural specimens as inspiration. Admission to the museum is free for the evening. The Delaware Museum of Nature & Science is located at 4840 Kennett Pike, Wilmington. Then head into town and visit the Howard Pyle Studio for their Members Show. The 75th Annual Chadds Ford Art Show and Sale will be held on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This treasured tradition brings together over 50 artists, and in celebration of this anniversary, a “Diamond Showcase” will honor past featured artists. Fortune and Longevity by Sue Cheng at Chester County Art Association

 

Travel around the world in A Showcase of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting at the Chester County Art Association. An Opening Reception will be held Thursday, March 7 from 5 to 7 pm, and the show will be on view through April 4. The CCAA is located at 100 North Bradford Avenue, West Chester. Stay local at the Oxford Arts Alliance in Face of Farming, an exhibition from local photographer Kathleen Buckalew. Her black-and-white works capture the people and places that supply our region and connect to the humanity beneath. Surround yourself with soft beauty, colors, and light at Atmospheric at Aston Mill Arts. The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art brings together pieces from the “master of the unsettled mood” in Jamie Wyeth: Unsettled. Focusing on imagery with curious characters, strange landscapes, and uneasy subjects, it is a different perspective on what many consider to be a familiar artist. The exhibition opens March 17 and runs through June 9, then will travel to four other museums through 2025. Also on view is Every Leaf & Twig: Andrew Wyeth’s Botanical Imagination through Sept. 15, and Karl J. Kuerner: The Continuity of Creativity through May 19. Explore Shapes and Shadows, works by Jill Beech, at Blue Streak Gallery. The sculptural pieces explore the interplay of light and shadow in natural forms, transformed using a mix of metal, clay, and organic materials. Healing Hands at The Jeweled Warrior

Hands are notoriously difficult to draw, but Healing Hands, a solo exhibition from Emily Knabb at The Jeweled Warrior celebrates the narrative held in the details, particularly the resilience of individuals grappling with chronic illnesses. An Opening Reception will be held on March 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and the show is on view through March 31. The Jeweled Warrior is located at 110 Pottstown Pike, Chester Springs. Step back in history with A Tribute to Dr. Anna Broomall at the Media Arts Council, a collection of art and artifacts that tell the story of this remarkable physician, teacher, advocate, and archivist who lived from 1847–1931. The show opens with a reception on March 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. and is on view through June 23. Continue exploring We Were Here: The Art and Artifacts of Delaware County 100 Years Ago and Today, on view through April 21. The Abington Art Center presents Women Artists Connected to Philly in its Art History Lecture Series through March.
