Chadds Ford’s primary lineup

With incumbent Chadds Ford Township Supervisor Noelle Barbone not running for reelection, there will be an almost new face at the head table come January.

Timotha Trigg, a current member of the Planning Commission and a former school director and board president for the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, is running unopposed for the Republican Party nomination in the May 16 primary. There are no Democrats running for that nomination.

She laughed when asked why she wants to be a supervisor.

“I’ve raised my family here and I’ve gotten so much from the community,” she said, “and over the years I’ve given a lot back and this seems like a logical next step.”

During her time as a school board director and now as a planning commission member, Trigg said she’s learned the importance of asking questions.

“I have things to say but usually it’s more important to listen,” she said.

Trigg added that while she always knew she was passionate about education, she’s learned too that she is passionate about the community in general.

As a supervisor, she said, she's not looking to turn the world upside down. The township has been run well for decades and I want to be a part of that.”

She said some of what she would bring to the table as a supervisor is to keep an eye on taxes, to keep them low, and to focus on sensible planning.

Barbone has been a supervisor for eight years. She went on the board after the late Keith Klaver stepped down from the board for health reasons in 2015. Now she’s stepping down because she’ll be close to 80 years old at the end of another six-year term.

“It’s been eight years,” she said, “and another six will make it 14 and I’ll find myself being a career politician. It was never my intention to do this for the rest of my life.”

She said the last eight years as supervisor, along with the previous seven as a member of the HARB, have taught her that “We live in a great community, and [being on the Board of Supervisors] gave me an opportunity to meet my neighbors, neighbors that I would not have ordinarily met outside the street I live on.”

Now, she said, she’ll be renewing her dedication to real estate. She’s been a realtor for almost 50 years.

Other local races include those for Region C of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District. Erin Talbert, who was elected in 2019 and now serves as board vice president, is running for reelection, but John Murphy and Jen Brown are not. Region C comprises Chadds Ford and Pennsbury townships.

There are six people running in the primary and all six are cross-filed on the Democratic and Republican Party ballots. However, Talbert, along with Jody Allen and Brian Schartz are endorsed by the Democrats, while Madeline Werner and Brian Lamb are endorsed by the Chadds Ford GOP.

In one other local election, Benjamin Simons is running for auditor.

The primary is next Tuesday, May 16.
