Avondale Barracks

Police from the Avondale barracks are investigating a burglary in Pocopson Township. The report said two men — no descriptions — broke into a garage at a residence on Crestview Drive at 3:40 a.m. on April 29 and stole numerous power tools.

A 35-year-old woman identified only as being from Landenberg, was arrested on shoplifting charges Sunday, April 30. The police report said she tried stealing $107 worth of jewelry and a wallet from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township.

Police are looking for an unknown male who stole $915 worth of merchandise, including $904 worth of trading card packs, from the East Marlborough Township Walmart on April 30.

Police said Elizabeth T. Malatesta, 46, of Wilmington was cited following a one-car crash on S. Creek Road in Pennsbury Township on April 28. The report said Malatesta was driving south on Creek when she lost control of the the2006 Volvo she was driving, struck a stone wall on the west side of the road, then caromed across the road and struck a utility pole on the east side and came to rest in an old, abandoned barn. Police said she was not injured.

Mia Vazquez Sanchez, 52, of Wilmington was arrested for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Township Walmart, a police report said. The incident happened on April 26. The report said she took $48 worth of soap and toiletries.

State police charged Jacob H. Long, 53, of Marcus Hook, with following too closely after a two-car crash at Route 1 and Onix Drive in East Marlborough Township, a police report said. The crash happened at 11:04 a.m. on April 22. According to police, both vehicles were northbound on Route 1. The lead vehicle, driven by a 16-year-old boy, applied his brakes and was then rear-ended, police said. Long reportedly suffered a minor injury but refused transport.

Police arrested a 39-year-old man from Millbourne, Pa. for DUI in Kennett Township on April 29. The incident happened at 1:02 a.m. after a trooper stopped the vehicle on Route 1 for an inoperable brake light.

Two people from Delaware, a 24-year-old woman from Wilmington, and a 23-year-old man from Newark, were arrested on drug possession charges following a traffic stop at the intersection of S. Union and W. Cypress streets in Kennett Square shortly after midnight on April 30. No reason for the stop was given in the report.

Police said they arrested Eric McKnight, 34, of Chester, for stealing $47 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township shortly before 7 p.m. on April 28. No other details were released.

State police are investigating the theft of $500 worth of merchandise from Ultra Beauty on Route 1 in East Marlborough Township on April 28.

Kennett Square Police Department

Borough police arrested a fugitive from justice on April 20. The police report said the department was made aware on April 19 that there was an arrest warrant for Eric Melendez out of the North East, Md. Police Department. While on patrol near the 300 Block of E. Maple Alley, on April 20, at about 7:24 p.m., officers observed Melendez and advised him of the Protection from Abuse order and the warrant out of Maryland. Melendez was taken into custody without incident and transported to Central Booking at Chester County Prison, the report said.

A male juvenile was charged with possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct, and sale and use of air rifles following an incident in which officers were dispatched for a suspicious condition. The incident occurred on April 14, at approximately 4:48 p.m., in the 100 block of W. State Street. Police said they found the youth near Center and Cedar streets in possession of a CO2 BB gun which was loaded with BBs and gas. The male juvenile was patted down for weapons and placed, uncuffed, in the backseat of a patrol vehicle. No other weapons were discovered, but he did possess a "Flair" brand vape device, which later tested positive for THC. Due to this being the second offense of this male juvenile being cited for carrying a BB gun on his person, a juvenile allegation was completed and submitted to Chester County Juvenile Probation.
