Longwood Gardens says it’s time to “Relax. Renew. Recharge.” Beginning April 22, Longwood’s Open Air Theatre and Italian Water Garden fountains will spring to life, as will its Square Fountain, Round Fountain (Flower Garden Walk), Sylvan Fountain (Peirce’s Park), and Children’s Corner fountains … bringing with them the refreshing sounds and sights of water in the gardens.

Pennsbury Township will hold a free shredding event in the township lot on Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. until noon. This is a popular event and an opportunity to have sensitive documents disposed of properly. Bring your boxes of documents and watch the “shredding.”

Artist Karl; Kuerner will have a showing at Sunset Hill Jewelers and Fine Arts Gallery beginning May 5.

Sunset Hill Jewelers and Fine Arts Gallery celebrates 40 years in business with an art show featuring celebrated Chadds Ford artist Karl J. Kuerner. During 40 years in business at its store at 23 North High Street, West Chester, Sunset Hill has become the trusted personal jeweler to thousands of area residents. To celebrate Sunset Hill Jewelers' 40th anniversary, the shop engaged noted Chadds Ford artist Karl J. Kuerner to display his art in the store’s second-floor fine arts gallery. Kuerner is the only artist to be personally mentored by world-famous artist Andrew Wyeth and Wyeth’s sister, Carolyn. The Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates will hold their Earth Day Celebration event at Brandywine Battlefield Park on Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about the environment at Brandywine Battlefield Park’s first-ever Earth Day celebration. Living history interpreters will be demonstrating trades and discussing 18th century herb gardens.  We’ll also have the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science with some examples of animals from the area. The event will be commemorated with the planting of a large tree, donated by Chadds Ford Tree Service. Tours of the Ring House (Washington’s Headquarters) are at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and tours of the Gilpin House are at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults; $7 for seniors, AAA, AARP; and $5 for youth (ages 3-11).

Volunteers are needed at the Barn at Spring Brook Farm.

The Barn at Spring Brook Farm at 360 Locust Grove Road, West Chester, invites interested volunteers to The Barn at Spring Brook Farm’s Volunteer Open House on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. Attendees can meet Barn staff, tour the property, say hi to the Barn’s animals, and learn about all the volunteer opportunities available, including garden help, camp counselors, and program and/or event volunteers. Yoga practitioners assume the Warrior Pose during Yoga in the Park at the Concord Township Park on Smithbridge Road Saturday. Despite the chilly temperatures, more than a dozen people took part in the event that was conducted by Yoga6’s Brinton Lake studio.
