Police Log Feb. 9: DUI, shoplifting, embezzlement

Police said Joseph Curran, 53, of Royersford, was arrested for DUI after falling at the Sunoco Station on Route 202 in Chadds Ford Township. The report said Curran refused medical treatment. Police said they determined that he had been driving under the influence. The incident happened on Jan. 20 at 11:51 a.m.

Avondale Barracks

State police from the Avondale barracks arrested three women for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Township Walmart on Dec. 30. No names were released, but the women range in age from 27 to 33. The report said they stole $17.45 worth of infant formula.

Jennifer C. Ortiz, 37, of Philadelphia, was cited for speeding following a one-car accident that sent Ortiz to the hospital for suspected injuries. Police said Ortiz was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz northbound in the right lane of Route 1 approaching Bayard Road when she crossed into the left lane and almost struck another vehicle. She started to cross into the path of oncoming traffic, police said, then lost control when turning the wheel to the right. The car hit the curb on the right side then overturned. Longwood EMS took Ortiz to Paoli Hospital.

Kennett Square Police Department

Police said they arrested Deborah Villafane, 42, of Kennett Square, for embezzlement on Feb. 1. She allegedly embezzled more than $335,000 from a business in the borough where she worked as an accountant. The police report said the illegal activities began in 2015, and the investigation began on July 31, 2021. Charges were filed on Jan. 31.

Stephen Dunn, 61, of Chadds Ford, was arrested and charged with DUI and other related traffic offenses after the vehicle he was operating was stopped due to an expired registration, a police report said. The incident occurred on Feb. 2, at approximately 1:07 p.m., in the 400 block of East Cypress Street. According to the report, police observed indicators suggesting intoxication, and field sobriety tests revealed impairment. Dunn was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.271 percent, the report said.
