Ruth Ann Burton, 95, of Wilmington, formerly of Chadds Ford, died Jan. 22. A public viewing will be held from 8 to 10 a.m.  Saturday, Feb. 20, at Bethel AME Church, 604 N. Walnut St., Wilmington, with a celebration of life to follow. In the interest of public health, the wearing of masks and the practice of social distancing will be enforced. More snow predicted

Another winter weather front is moving in, according to the National Weather Service. The latest information does not give any estimated accumulation but does say snow could start sometime tonight and continue through early Thursday morning. Snowfall may be heavy between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Snow could also last into Friday.

Snowfall amounts will depend on how much mixing occurs. There are some indications that a longer period of sleet may occur within a zone across the area. There is an active Winter Storm Watch for Chester County from 4 a.m. Thursday until 1 p.m. Friday.

Police Log Feb. 17: DUI, drugs, thefts

Police said Austin Pepper, 23, of Chadds Ford, was arrested for DUI following a one-car crash on Route 1 just east of Ring Road on Feb. 8. The accident happened at about 1:30 a.m. According to the report, Pepper crashed his Mazda CX-5 into snow and ice on the road’s right shoulder. The airbags were deployed. Police determined Pepper was driving under the influence of alcohol.

A vehicle code violation led to a 38-year-old man’s arrest on drug charges in Chadds Ford Township. Police said they made a traffic stop on the vehicle at Route 1 and Webb Road and found John Kelly, of Media, possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested two people for harassment after the two got into an altercation at the Wawa on Route 1 in Concord Township on Feb. 2. Police identified the two as Victoria McVey, 29, of Norwood, and Michael Gilbert, 43, of Media. According to the report, McVey spat on Gilbert’s face.

A 19-year-old from Concord Township was bilked out f $2,600 by a phony job recruiter, a police report said. The victim had responded to the impersonator who was looking to hire college students. He was instructed to buy Google Play gift cards as part of a secret shopper position. He did so but was never reimbursed for the purchase.

A 69-year-old Concord Township woman was the victim of identity theft. According to the police report, the woman said $9,105 was deposited into a Pandemic Unemployment Assistance account that was opened under her Social Security number. She said she never opened the account.

Avondale Barracks

An unidentified 33-year-old man from Newark was arrested for the attempted theft of $40 worth of merchandise from the East Marlborough Township Walmart on Feb. 2. He was processed and released, police said. No other details were given in the report.

Two women from Wilmington, unidentified by police, were arrested for stealing from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on Jan. 18. A police report said the two, aged 29 and 22 respectively, loaded a cart full of items, went through self-checkout, paid for a few but left the store without paying for all of them, and loaded their car while store loss prevention watched and reported the theft. A total of 65 items were taken valued at $800.
