Vincent Marra of Kennett Square

Vincent Marra, 92, of Kennett Square, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Jennersville Hospital. Born on Oct. 25, 1928, in Maida, Catanzaro in the Calabria region of Italy, he was the son of the late Mariano Marra and Theresa (Colistra) Marra and brother to the late Thomas, Frank, and Terry (Marra) Palladino.

Mr. Marra was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War. Vince spent his long career as a barber in South Philadelphia, where he lived most of his life. Vince was an avid ballroom dancer for many years and enjoyed crossword puzzles and trivia games.

All services will be private.  Arrangements by the Kuzo Funeral Home of Kennett Square.

Longwood extends Xmas light show

Longwood extends Xmas light show

Longwood Gardens is extending its award-winning A Longwood Christmas display through Jan. 17. Longwood’s 4-acre conservatory is now open as well as the gardens’ dazzling outdoor light display, garden railway, Open Air Theatre fountains and outdoor firepits.

In addition, the Terrace Café is open with limited indoor seating and the outdoor Beer Garden is also open. Admission to the Christmas display is by Timed Admission Ticket, with tickets purchased in advance for a specific date and time. Members require free, timed Member reservations to visit.

Gardens Premium members do not require reservations. The gardens are open daily 10 a.m. -11 p.m. Tickets and reservations are available now at longwoodgardens.org, as are new visiting guidelines in accordance with government regulations.

Longwood and other museums in the state, including the Brandywine River Museum of Art, are open again. Gov. Tom Wolf rescinded the latest restrictions and allowed them — and restaurants — to reopen.

George A. Finn of Chadds Ford

Mr. George A. Finn, 93, of Chadds Ford, died Friday, Dec. 25, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Anne Marie (Arnold) Finn who died in 2017. They were married 64 years. He was born on June 28, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was the son of the late Herbert and Agnes (Fillot) Finn.

Mr. Finn was a graduate of St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Newark, N.J. where he was captain of the track team. He continued his track career and education, attending the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. where he graduated with a degree in chemistry. He did his postgraduate at Notre Dame completing his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1953. He worked as the technical director at Dupont Corporation for 20 years. He then continued his career as the general manager of McGee Industries in Aston, retiring in 1995. In his free time, he was a big Notre Dame sports fan, enjoyed golfing with his wife, traveling, and enjoying his retirement at his home in Lewes, Del. Throughout his life, he actively worked with the Catholic Church to fundraise for local charities.

Mr. Finn is survived by his children, Mary Jo Volpicelli (Vincent), Tom Finn (Mary Pat), and Patricia Finn-Smith, and daughter in law Linda Finn; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and brother Edward Finn. He is preceded in death by his son Mark Finn and sister Claire Finn.

A private memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 212 Meredith St., Kennett Square. The service will be private to the family but will be live-streamed via St. Patrick’s Church website. The burial of his cremated remains will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del. Mr. Finn’s family would like to thank the staff at the Brandywine Living at Longwood, Home Instead Senior Care, and Penn Medicine Hospice for their loving care.
