Elizabeth (Liza) Donovan Alberts, 69, of Unionville, died at her home following a long illness. She is survived by her husband Harry Alberts and sons, Stephen Alberts, fiancée Marisa Smith of Lancaster, and Christopher Alberts of Unionville.  She was predeceased by her parents Jeremiah and Mary Rita Donovan and her brother Michael Donovan.

Elizabeth Donovan Alberts

Liza was born in Stamford, Conn. and spent her early years residing with her parents in Pound Ridge, N.Y.  She was a graduate of Moore College of Art in Philadelphia where she earned a bachelor’s degree, in photography.  She was fortunate to have enjoyed a successful career in the arts, working as a production artist at the marketing and advertising agency of Richard P. Ritter.  She also worked for Charles P. Mills, Commercial Photography Studio in Philadelphia. Liza retired from her chosen field to stay home to raise her sons and after ten years began a fulfilling career working as a Library Assistant at Unionville High School. Liza was a person who loved a good book, loved working with the students and her coworkers at Unionville.  Art was woven into the fabric of Liza’s life and her creativity was beautifully expressed through her hobbies and interests, which included landscape photography, gardening, basketry, artful pillows, and jewelry that featured shells, seas glass and other treasures she collected in the families’ travels.

Services are private.  Arrangements have been made by Kuzo Funeral Home.  To commemorate the life of Liza, memorial contributions may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, (LLS.org), 100 N. 20th St., FL4, Philadelphia, PA 19103.  The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care and support provided by Penn Hospice Services and the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

Liza appreciated the comforting tidal rhythms of quiet living and softly spoken words.  Beneath this gentle personality was a sustaining strength.  This strength is her gift to her family and friends.

Roslyn “Roz” H. Romanow

Roslyn H. Romanow died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the age of 93, having lived a full and vibrant life.

Everyone knew Roslyn as “Roz.” She had a big, beautiful, vivacious presence that could light a stadium. Roz loved life, lived it well, and was always open to new adventures.

She was also a survivor, losing her beloved husband, Robert all too soon in her life and experiencing the loss of her father, Aaron Miller; mother, Gertrude; sister, Lenore Urdang; and her partner for over 20 years, Allan Levine. And yet she never lost her love for life or her faith and remained a passionate optimist.

Roz was born in Jersey City, N.J. in 1927 to Gertrude and Aaron and resided in New York City, and later in California and Pennsylvania. Despite months of lessons and 45 years in California, she was unable to shake her colorful and unmistakable New York accent. Roz was an exceptional businesswoman. When few women were entrepreneurs, she ran her own textile company in Los Angeles.

Roz loved travel, golf, and was an avid bridge player. She found a wonderful and loving partner in Allan to share these common interests. But most of all, she deeply loved her family and extended family. Roz leaves behind her daughter, Aimee Flubacher (Todd) of Chadds Ford; her son, Seth Romanow (Wendy) of Bellevue, Wash.; her four grandchildren, Liza and Ali Romanow and Avery and Marlise Flubacher; she also leaves behind her niece and nephew, Scott and Meryl Urdang and Tom, Jill, and Sue Levine, who thought of her as their mom.

The family is thankful for the loving care provided by Jenner’s Pond, Willow Tree Hospice, and Tammie, who was Roz’s “granny nanny.”

A private service will be at Beth Emeth Memorial Park, Wilmington. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local food banks or to do something kind for a frontline worker and say, “it’s from Roz.” A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.

Kathryn (Kay) Ethel McKinney Richey

Kathryn Richey

Kay was the daughter of the late Ethel Banker McKinney and Arthur McKinney. She grew up on the farm in Plattsburg N.Y. with her sister, Laura Mae McKinney.

Kay graduated with an English degree from Eastern Nazarene College. She played basketball, was a cheerleader and wrote for the school paper.  It was also where she met and married Myron Eugene Richey. Always together, they shared 60 years of marriage. Kay was a loving wife and faithfully supported her husband across their 60 years of service as Pastor and wife in the Church of the Nazarene. Kay was a prayer warrior, a faithful Sunday school teacher, mentor and alto choir member.

Being a mom was her joy. She had four children over a span of 20 years. She enjoyed a clean home and three square meals a day. She made sure prayer was a part of the start of each day and made music an activity to remember. She looked forward to family vacations in the Adirondack mountains of New York.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband and sister, and is survived by four children; Craig and Cheryl Richey of Painesville, Ohio, Jim and Donna Richey of Mentor, Ohio, Kathy and Jim St. John of Lincoln University, and Laurie Richey of North Wales, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

To the very end, Kay always wore a smile giving evidence of God’s goodness and faithfulness to her.

Adopt-a-Pet Sept. 14

The following animals are ready to be adopted from the Brandywine Valley SPCA in West Chester.

Angela Martin

Angela Martin

Angela Martin has every reason to be as cranky as her office namesake. At just 2 years old, she was saved from the streets in rough shape. A kind foster family helped her heal, and it is clear Angela isn’t letting her past define her. She loves everyone, including kids and other cats, and she’s quite a sweet talker with her cute little trill noises. Angela is available for adoption from her foster home. Email Adam to meet her at awhisman@bvspca.org. You can adopt Angela Martin for a fee you name through Sunday, Sept. 20.

Hazel

Hazel

Adorable Hazel loves to play with other dogs and run around in the play yard enjoying the sunshine. Among her favorite things are long walks and hiking. Already house-broken, Hazel is dreaming of a family as fun and adventurous as she is.  You can adopt Hazel for a fee you name through Sunday, Sept. 20.

For more information, go to www.bvspca.org or phone 484-302-0865.
