According to a press release, Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association has raised $6,000 benefitting the staff of Sovana Bistro who were suddenly without work due to a Jan. 3 fire at the Kennett Square restaurant. The money was raised during a Jan. 6 fundraiser. The event was organized by the Brandywine Chapter of the PRLA and is a tangible example of the trade association’s mission to rally behind restaurant owners and employees in order to promote and improve the lives of those in the hospitality industry. Several area restaurants have offered temporary employment to Savona staff while the owner works to rebuild. There is still no word on what caused the fire. According to Chester County Fire Marshal John Weer, the building is still not safe enough for investigators to enter.
