Chester County Deputy District Attorney has been selected to join the U.S. Department of Justice as a federal prosecutor, working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware, said a press release from Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan.

De Barrena-Sarobe, who headed the Chester County D.A.’s Drug Unit, joined the office in 2009.  He led significant investigations and prosecutions, including Operation Silent Night in Coatesville, a street-level operation to deter violent crime, and Operation Telaraña, a massive bust of a Mexican drug trafficking organization that was headquartered in southern Chester County.

“Chris is a talented and aggressive prosecutor,” said Hogan in the release.  “It is extremely difficult to earn a job as a federal prosecutor, with thousands of applicants from all over the United States for every opening.  I am confident that the skills and dedication Chris learned in Chester County will make him an outstanding addition to the Department of Justice.

De Barrena-Sarobe said it was a privilege to work in Chester County. “I look forward to applying all that I have learned at the District Attorney’s Office to attack crime in Wilmington and the greater Delaware Valley,” he said in the release.

He is the third Chester County prosecutor in the last two years to be selected to join the Department of Justice as a federal prosecutor.  Previously, Priya DeSouza (U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania) and Peter Hobart (U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania) joined the Department of Justice.
