Aces for U-CF achievement

The educational achievement within the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District continues to draw high marks.

More were revealed during the Nov. 17 school board meeting when Ken Batchelor, assistant to the superintendent, reviewed the results of the annual achievement report.

“There are so many ways our students are achieving in so many areas,” Batchelor said

The report reveals changes in student proficiency in standardized tests over the years. Tests involved include the Pennsylvania System of School Assessments, Keystone exams, SATs and Advanced Placement exams.

All of the schools did well, Batchelor said. He gave credit to the teachers, curriculum, staff, families and students themselves for the results.

In comparing PSSA results, a slide presentation of three-year averages — 2011 through 2013 — showed U-CF students with a 93.8 percent proficiency in math and a 93.1 proficiency in reading. 2014 results show an increase to 95.3 percent in math and 93.9 percent in reading.

Comparing the district with statewide results, third-grade proficiency in math for U-CF students showed 97 percent proficiency. In reading, it was 96 percent. Statewide, however, the results were 75 percent in math and 70 percent in reading.

Eighth-graders also showed improvement. Those scores showed U-CF math proficiency at 95 percent, while the state average was 74 percent. Reading scores were 98 percent for U-CF and 81 percent for the state average.

“This is the eighth achievement report that I’ve been associated with, and this is pretty impressive. Maybe, the best I’ve ever seen,” said Superintendent John Sanville.

Batchelor said the documents used for the presentation would be posted on the district’s web site at www.ucfsd.org.
