Marcus Caedmon Armstrong Macaluso, 42, died Oct. 3,  just 10 days shy of his birthday.  He had suffered a severe heart attack on Friday, Sept. 26. It became more complicated with brain damage and the discovery of liver cancer.

He is survived by his parents, Brenda and Tom Macaluso, sister, Maura Macaluso, son, Thomas, Thomas’s mother Jessica Peterson and many other loved ones related in Spirit.

Marcus was a devoted father to Thomas.  Marcus’s life has been filled with adventure and helping others. He became a Reiki healer at age 11.  He hiked, not only the entire Appalachian Trail, but much of the West.  He survived an encounter with a mother grizzly bear with her cub in Glacier National Park by being calm and centered.  In 1991 he did a 7 day vision quest with no food in Joshua Tree National Park, California, 10 miles from the nearest road.

After the 1992 Rainbow Gathering in Florida, he and others started Everybody’s Kitchen.  They traveled around the country in a bus feeding the homeless.  After reading the “Bhagavad Gita” on a flight to Hawaii, he encountered some Hare Krishnas while hiking on Maui.  They invited him to come to their ashram.  He lived there, cooked for them and planted a kitchen garden.

While in the Four Corners area, he was approached by a Navajo elder, who showed him hidden rock paintings.  He lived with the Navajo, planted indigenous trees for them, and was adopted as a nephew by the elder.  Marcus has always cared for the planet, it’s wild life and it’s people.  He has done much landscaping and stone work in the area.

Children have always loved Marcus, and felt safe in his presence.  He often took them swimming, fishing and camping, and participated in their sports, especially lacrosse.Three local AA groups that welcome young people are a legacy of his.  And much of his time has been spent with these individuals.  Sometimes he gave out copies of “Siddhartha.”  Ministry to the infirmed and elderly was also his calling.

Please respect the family’s need for privacy:  no phone calls, visits, food or flowers.  They will reach out as needed.  Please continue to hold everyone in the Light.  Perform acts of kindness in Marcus’s memory.

A Memorial Meeting for Worship will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at London Grove Friends Meeting, 500 West Street Road in Kennett Square.  Contributions may be made in Marcus’s name to Kacie’s Cause, 232 Longwood Rd., Kennett Sq., PA 19348 and Kennett Area Community Service, P.O.
