Josephine Neary of Chadds Ford

Josephine “Joy” (nee Conway) Neary, 75, of Chadds Ford, died Monday, June 16.

Born to the late James and Jane (Furnari) Conway in Scranton, she was a resident of Chadds Ford for the past 43 years. Joy was a graduate of West Scranton High School, and received her nursing degree from Scranton State Hospital. After working in New York City as an operating room nurse, she spent 27 years at Bowling Green Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center as a registered nurse, retiring in 2012.

She was known for her keen sense of humor and story telling, and enjoyed traveling and crocheting, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, all of whom made her very proud.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, James Conway.

Surviving are children, Kathleen (Steven Sr.) Blumberg, Bear, Del.; Colleen Neary, of Media; and Bryan Neary, of Wayne; as well as her five grandchildren, Steven Jr., Daniel, Nathan, Bryan Jr. and Moira. She is also survived by her companion of many years, Richard Cavallaro; her brother, James Conway (Patricia), Dunmore, Pa.; her uncle, Philip Furnari, Dunmore; and two nieces. She was also “Grandma Joy” to Keira and Kella Smith.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Cornelius Church, 110 Ridge Road in Chadds Ford. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore, Pa.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley.
