Timothy Finian Hickey, 38, of Unionville, died Monday, July 23, in Managua, Nicaragua after a brief illness.
He is survived by his son, Sean Patrick of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, and his parents, Matthew M. Hickey and Mary Hickey (nee Breslin) of Unionville, Pa. He is also survived by his brother, Brendan M. Hickey (Justine) of Secane, and his sister, Erin M. Grubb (Brian) of Romansville.
Tim graduated from Unionville High School in 1992 and attended Delaware Valley College and graduated from SUNY Cobbleskill with a degree in Landscape Design. He formed his own company, T.F. Hickey Landscaping, and was known for his beautiful, utilitarian patios, walkways and retaining wall designs with their unique shapes and unusual features.
Tim was devoted to Sean Patrick and spent part of every year with him in Puerto Cabezas, fishing and swimming and just being buddies.
Tim was a world traveler who hiked the Appalachian Trial from Georgia to Maine twice and the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. He owned an apricot farm in Argentina and climbed two of the three highest Andean Mountains of Ecuador. He was a guitar-strummin’ environmentalist and an artist.
Tim will be remembered fondly by family and friends for his cheerful disposition, uncommon gentleness and his infectious laughter. He will also be remembered for that “Irish twinkle” in his eye, which quickly set strangers at ease.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the “Timothy Finian Hickey Memorial Scholarship,” Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation, 901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 20 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street in Kennett Square. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery.
