Around Town July 19

• Chester County Commissioners, on July 19, removed a controversial 911 fee from consideration.

The plan to raise $2.6 million by having townships assess a $5.20 fee on all residents was introduced in June, but supervisors from all municipalities pushed back. The money was to help offset increasing costs of the 911 system.

Birmingham and Pennsbury township supervisors were among those that wrote letters and spoke out against the proposal. Birmingham Supervisor Bill Kirkpatrick previously said that the county has the authority to raise the taxes itself, but incorrectly wanted the townships to do it instead.

• The Pennsbury Township Board of Supervisors’ meeting scheduled for July 18 was rescheduled for Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m.

• Singer, songwriter and humorist Mark Cable will be in concert at Brandywine Summit Camp Meeting in Concord Township, on Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m. An accomplished guitarist, Mark has released 18 CD's and has been touring full time for over 25 years. His insightful everyday-life songs along with his off the wall sense of humor have stirred audiences across the U.S. to laugh, cry and think about the things in life that matter most. The Camp, founded in 1866, is located at 119 Beaver Valley Road just north of the Route 202 Delaware/Pennsylvania state line. The public is welcome to the free event.

• Southern Chester County’s Paradocx Vineyard, announced plans to expand a new location at Booth’s Corner Market in Boothwyn to include a welcoming Wine Shop and local fresh produce.  The new “PDX Wine Shop” will feature locally crafted premium wines, featuring bottled varietal wines, T wine, and wines in our famous Paint Can. The company’s new “PDX Wine Shop” is located at 1362 Naamans Creek Road, and can be reached by calling 610-255-5684.
