Charles Richard “Richie” Williams

A quiet, unassuming gentle man died peacefully at Chester Co. Hospital on Saturday, May 23 at the age of 80.

A quiet, unassuming gentle man died peacefully at Chester Co. Hospital on Saturday, May 23 at the age of 80.  He was the husband of Merle Lank Williams, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. 

Born in Freeland, Md., he was the son of Roger Meredith and Elizabeth Ann Spinner Williams. He graduated from PS DuPont High School in 1946 and attended Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He served his country in the Army as a medic during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he worked for Wilmington Wrecking Co. and The Independence School until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Roger, Bruce, Karen, Ellen, Debra, Paige and 14 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was pre deceased by a brother Robert. 

A memorial service celebrating Richie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 4 p.m. at the Kuzo and Grieco Funeral Home, (610-444-4116) 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.  Family and friends may visit with the family from 3-4 p.m. before the service. Frances Richards Pyle of Kendal-at-Longwood

Frances Richards Pyle, 93, of Kendal-at-Longwood passed away May 22 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester after a brief illness.

She was the widow of Harold Pyle with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.
Born in the family homestead near Toughkenamon, she was the only child of the late J. Warren and Helen Lewis Richards.

Frances attended the Kennett schools, graduating from George School and West Chester State Teachers College.  She taught fourth grade in the Kennett School District for a number of years.

She was a birthright Friend and a member of the New Garden Friends Meeting, Religious Society of Friends where she had served in many capacities over the years.  In addition, Frances was a member of the Board of the Friends Home in Kennett Square.

Over the years, Frances had been a generous benefactress to many charitable organizations.  She enjoyed gardening and traveling throughout the world with her beloved husband, Harold.  Possessing a great sense of humor, she loved being with friends and family.  Frances was admired for her determination to swim and exercise throughout her lifetime.  Known for her matter-of-fact philosophy of life and her feisty personality, she will be missed by all who knew her.

Frances is survived by her cousins and many friends.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday May 28 at New Garden Friends Cemetery 875 Newark Rd Toughkenamon.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the New Garden Friends Meeting at the above address or to the charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are being handled by the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home (610-444-4116) of Kennett Square.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.griecofuneralhomes.com.
