Women interested in developing their leadership skills and learning techniques for creating continued success in their personal and professional lives will convene on March 2, 2019 for the Junior League of Wilmington’s 4th Annual Women’s Leadership Summit at the Executive Conference Center in Newark, Delaware.

The Summit will draw attendees from Delaware, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and beyond.  In the spirit of this year’s theme of Our Time is Now, the Summit will offer a well-rounded program for women looking to strengthen their leadership abilities through workshops and presentations led by women leaders of diverse backgrounds.  Attendees will learn from two keynote speakers: Jean Dahlgren, President of Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD), will share insights and tips on Engaging in Productive Self-Reflection, and Sarah McBride, National Press Secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, will emphasize The Fierce Urgency of Now. Other inspiring speakers include Stephanie Payne Preece, Founder of the charity Gals that Give, Richella Jordan, Sr. Principal for Business Process at Amtrak, and Dr. Veronica Carey, Assistant Dean of Diversity and Student Affairs at Drexel University.

The one-day conference will also offer panel discussions, including a legislative panel focused on Reframing Politics as Influence featuring Sherry Dorsey Walker, State of Delaware Representative for District 3; Jamie Schneider, campaign manager for Delaware’s District 12 State Representative Krista Griffith; Sarah Stowens, Moms Demand Action Delaware Chapter; and Lauren CW Vella, policy director for the Delaware Attorney General’s Office. And, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women - Delaware Chapter will present a panel with findings and takeaways from its report State of Our Union: Black Women and Girls in Delaware. Dr. Doris Griffin, Executive Director of the Delaware Adolescent Program, Inc., will moderate the panel, which will also feature several NCBW-DE members, including Cimone Philpotts, principle researcher for report; Dionna Sargent, Community Development Market Leader for Cinnaire Corporation; journalist Nichelle Polston; Latisha Bracey, senior public affairs specialist; and Taria Pritchett, English teacher and confidence coach. Additional content will focus on techniques for personal development, insights from women leaders in professional and nonprofit sectors, and discussions on improving and making the most of one’s leadership skills.

Complimentary professional headshots will be provided by Foschi Photography, and breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and leave better equipped to be effective leaders in their workplaces, their communities, and their personal lives.  The Summit is aimed at professionals of all levels in private enterprise, government, and nonprofit organizations, as well as managers, business owners, entrepreneurs, and those who work in community outreach. Students and those looking to re-enter the workplace will also benefit from the Summit.

“For more than 100 years, the League has been developing the talents of women to make lasting change in the community,” Angela Gustavsen, President of the JLW.  “We are thrilled to bring our Mission of training and empowering women to the community once again, with our Fourth Annual Women’s Leadership Summit.”
