WHO WAS CHARLES MATHER....Charles Mather purchased the property in 1897 from the Painter family and at the time he was the Master of Fox Hounds at the Radnor Hunt.  Mr. Mather transformed the Painter Farm into a "hunting box” known as the Brandywine Meadows Farm and the site of the Brandywine Hounds (aka the Mather Hunt).  The transformation included the conversion of a barn into a state of the art equestrian facility (the current Clubhouse), and the construction of kennels including the Kennelman’s House, the Huntsman's House   and the formal gardens.  The  Brandywine Hounds continued after the sale of the estate in 1963 and disbanded in 2004 after providing the wonderful sport of fox chasing to generations of families for over 100 years.
