LONGWOOD _ Members of the community are invited to see first-hand how Longwood Fire Company operates and to meet the dedicated professionals serving the public on Sunday, October 20.

“We have an excellent department and we would like those we serve to come and meet us and to view our facility,” said Chief A. J. McCarthy. “Last year we handled 512 calls of all types. We provide a valuable service to the community and we know the public supports us. The open house is an excellent time for all members of the family to spend some time with us.”

Longwood Fire Company is located at 1001 East Baltimore Pike, near Longwood Gardens. The Open House will take place from noon until 4:00 p.m.

            Scheduled events include:

  • Vehicle rescue demonstration at 1:30 p.m.
  • Moon bounce
  • Smoke trailer for practicing home evacuations provided by Kennett Fire Co.
  • Fire extinguisher training.
  • Face painting
  • Walkthroughs of fire trucks and special operation vehicles
  • ID Kits performed by the Kennett Township Police Department
  • First Aid and blood pressure checks by Longwood EMTs and Paramedics
  • Prizes from various local businesses

Hot dogs, snacks, and drinks will be available in addition to a variety of complementary fire prevention materials, including Longwood fire hats.

Longwood Fire Company has begun its annual fundraising appeal. Longwood is dedicated to providing the best possible emergency services for the community. Longwood heavily relies on donations from the community to meet its budget. Some funding comes from municipalities and grants but those donations don’t cover all of the expenses. Training volunteers, maintaining emergency vehicles and other costs is expensive. Contributions are always appreciated.

Longwood Fire Company has served the communities of Kennett, East Marlborough, Pennsbury and Pocopson townships since 1921. Longwood Fire Company provides fire and rescue and emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information see www.longwoodfireco.com.
