The event, which has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarship funds, takes place in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building, at 7:30 p.m. The contestants’ platforms cover local human services organizations like Safe Harbor; programs that have both local and national impact such as women’s homelessness and suicide prevention; and such national organizations as the American Diabetes Association, the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Miss WCU 1999, Michelle Filling, will join Miss WCU 2016 Ashley Lyles as emcees. The University’s Dance Team, just returning from the UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships with two finalist trophies in hip-hop and jazz, will perform, as will WCU’s High Street Harmonix a cappella group. More than $2,000 worth of prizes will be awarded. The event is open to the public. Tickets are available through Student Services Inc. on the ground floor of Sykes Student Union: 610-436-2266.
