Family Promise of Southern Chester County to Host Open House

Community Invited to Tour New Resource Center

Family Promise of Southern Chester County, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families with children experiencing homelessness, is hosting an Open House on Thursday, March 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at its new Resource Center located at 1156 West Baltimore Pike, in Kennett Square.  At this exciting event, Family Promise will celebrate the generosity and support from over 600 volunteers, congregations, businesses and community service clubs.

Family Promise staff and board will conduct tours of the new Resource Center, answer questions, and share the organization’s vision for providing families experiencing homelessness with a path toward a financially stable future.  “Every child deserves a home,” said Susan Minarchi, executive director of Family Promise of Southern Chester County.  “I wake up every morning determined to fulfill that promise.  It’s the driving force behind everything we do at Family Promise.”

The new Family Promise Resource Center, a 4,000 square-foot, three-story building, offers families the resources necessary for rebuilding their lives.  During the day, families have full access to a kitchen for preparing meals, computers for securing employment and housing, washer and dryers, storage facilities, showers, and a cozy, safe nursery.  Family Promise provides comprehensive case management, counseling, training, and financial literacy guidance at the Resource Center.  Every evening for a week at a time, 27 local congregations offer meals, shelter and companionship for up to 14 family members, and host families for four separate weeks per year.

“Our new Resource Center is designed to provide families with all the comforts of home until they are back on their feet,” added Susan Minarchi.  “Our volunteers and supporters are the reason Family Promise is able to alleviate family homelessness in Southern Chester County.”
