The 34th Annual Veterans Wheelchair Games Sunday August 17, 2014 from 8 a.m. - 12 Noon Independence Mall, Philadelphia Come celebrate the 34th Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games- a sports and rehabilitation program for Veterans who participate in sports competition. These heroes have suffered spinal cord injuries, neurological problems and amputations- yet they display amazing courage and spirit. Our Veterans put their lives on the line protecting us all. Join us as we recognize their bravery and dedication as they showcase their athletic skills. The National Veterans Wheelchair Games attract more than 500 athletes every year and is the largest event of its kind in the world! These Veterans show they've not only overcome their setbacks- they achieve exceptional feats of athletic prowess. This event will amaze attendees as they see just how well these individuals compete in athletics. The Chadds Ford Historical Society will be there on Independence Mall as four costumed guides interact with our Veterans and offer educational programs on 18th century history, music and culture. Ned Hector- the free black Colonial soldier who fought at the Battle of the Brandywine will be there, along with musicians playing the dulcimer and others showcasing Colonial games.
