H. F. du Pont designed his spring garden as a celebration of color, and these flowering trees play a pivotal role in his composition.

See what’s happening in the new millwright’s shop in the 1704 Grist Mill! The Manatawny Still Works will be on hand to provide tastings of their handcrafted spirits during the program.

Schedules annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service

On Thursday at FOP headquarters in West Chester

Fraternal Order of Police, Chester County Lodge #11 will be holding its annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at FOP Headquarters, 218 N. Church Street, West Chester, PA.

Kicking of National Police Week which begins on Sunday, FOP Lodge #11 will pay tribute to those law enforcement officers from Chester County who have made the supreme sacrifice while protecting their community.

Guest speakers include state FOP President Les Neri, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan, Chief John Laufer, Coatesville Police Department, and the Reverend Jack Crans.

The memorial service is an outdoor event and public is invited.  In addition to our speakers, attending are the Chester County Pipe and Drum Band, Chester County Sheriff’s Honor Guard, Rifle Salute and Taps.

Crafting Rustic Birdhouses @ Mt. Cuba Center

Embellishing a simple birdhouse with twigs, leaves, and other natural objects brings an organic, woodsy look to it that can easily be incorporated into your garden. Start with a wooden house and paint it or attach cut-out pictures to the sides, then enhance it with a variety of materials from the garden. Escape Brandywine is an escape room experience, set inside the historic Chads House, c.1725,  located along site of the Battle of Brandywine. This escape room program is unlike any other, since it places you directly inside an authentic historical space with a Revolutionary War mission!

Escape Brandywine places participants into roles of spies on the eve of the Battle of Brandywine, and charges them with finding General Howe's battle plans that have been hidden inside the Chads House for safe keeping. Using real Revolutionary War spy techniques, codes and cyphers, players will have 60 minutes to solve puzzles that will allow them to locate the plans and escape the house to deliver the plans to George Washington!

Designed for adults who want to awaken their inner artists, this program will include inspiration from the exhibition The Way Back: The Paintings of George A. Weymouth, and feature a hands-on painting activity. Participants will learn the basics of mixing and painting with egg tempera from artist E. Craig Marcin. Learn this centuries-old method of painting and take home a small work of art!
The museum will open at 5:30 p.m. with the workshop beginning at 6:00 p.m. Cost includes art materials and light refreshments. BYOB!

With studios in Commack, Long Island and Pocono Lake, PA, Marcin paints in watercolor and tempera and has a professional background in optical design and photography.
