WHAT: Longwood Gardens' popular Wine & Jazz Festival returns Saturday, June 1 where guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of live music while savoring wines from around the world. This year’s lineup includes Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Stefon Harris & Blackout, Bria Skonberg Quintet, Anat Cohen Quartet, and High & Mighty Brass. The festival also features wines from 20 wineries across the globe. A special evening Wine & Jazz All Stars performance will take place Friday, May 31 featuring the powerhouse Wine & Jazz performers creating a one-of-a-kind, never-before-seen musical experience.

For the first time in 28 years, the Kennett Library’s “Bayard Taylor Home & Garden Tour” will feature 14 remarkable properties all located within the borough of Kennett Square. This year’s tour, “Strolling the Square,” offers visitors the opportunity to discover the charm and hidden treasures of this small but vibrant town – all at a leisurely walking pace. And no walking tour of Kennett Square would be complete without a stop at one of our delicious eateries, unique shops, and contemporary art galleries. There’s something new to discover around every corner of the Square!
This special one-day Historic Autos event at Winterthur will celebrate famous British vehicles of the post–World War II era featured in the hit Netflix show The Crown and include a 1:00 pm lecture. Port Royal Circle will be filled with a collection of Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, MG, Triumph, and Austin-Healey vehicles from 1947–64. In addition, this event will include Winterthur’s newly acquired Rolls-Royce Phantom I Pall Mall. Members free. Included with admission.

Join the movement to help save the pollinators as well as all beneficial insects. Review the conservation importance of pollinators and learn key methods for converting a lawn into a pollinator-rich flower garden. Starter plugs will be available for purchase along with an overview of their growth and performance in the garden. The instructor will demonstrate methods of observation and monitoring and show you how to share this information online with others to become part of this unique community preserving these important insects. Each session will provide valuable information, but by attending all three sessions you will receive a broad introduction to pollinators and pollinator gardens. Admission is free to public!

Develop your sense of balance at the Brandywine River Museum of Art by creating colorful compositions, playing balancing games and enjoying the return of the renowned Funicular Circus, who will amaze all with their innovative circus arts performance at noon followed by a tight wire crossing of the Brandywine River at 1:30 p.m. First Sundays for Families presents free, hands-on workshops designed to engage visitors of all ages in creative art activities and performances. No registration necessary.

Background-Some people like to call Chris Sanderson a "renaissance man" as he was a teacher, musician, leader of the Pocopson Valley Boys, historian, lecturer, consultant to Andrew Wyeth on local history, aircraft spotter for WW II, etc. We're going to delve a bit into his involvement with the two Old Fiddlers picnics in Chester Country which he attended, played, advertised, announced from 1922 until his passing in 1966. We'll have some pictures on display as well as his first Old Fiddler's invitation to play.
So come join us and have a wonderful time to start off your summer at Brandywine Prime and the Sanderson Museum!
The workshop will take place on Tuesday, June 4th from 9 am-12:30 pm at Willowdale Chapel in Kennett Square. We hold these workshops regularly, so if this date and time do not work for you, there will be other options coming up! Flyer with more information is attached. Winterthur is a great place to walk and run, but with 10 miles of roads and nearly 1,000 acres of scenery, it’s hard to discover each and every path on your own. Learn how to make the most of walking on this famous country estate. Each calorie burning walk will feature a new path for you to explore. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear walking shoes. In case of inclement weather, please call our reservations office (302.888.4600) approximately 3 hours before the walk to check the status of the walk. Please note that this is a fitness walk. Walk will be at a faster pace than our walking tours. Some terrain may be hilly. Walk begins at Visitor Services patio. Members free. Included with admission.

Artists may work in oil, watercolor, gouache, pastel or acrylic.

For Quakers, education was important for people to conduct their daily lives. And providing education to all was a vital expression of their belief in human equality. This led many Quakers to challenge slavery. As Quakers came to accept that slavery was wrong, more came to believe in the importance of education for African Americans once they were free. To be sure, education was important to Quakers, but not for religious instruction or conversion. Education was seen in a more pragmatic light. Quakers believed in education as restitution for the years of unpaid services, especially because no one could lose an education or have it taken away, unlike land or money or, for that matter, freedom itself.
Dr. Bradley Skelcher is Professor Emeritus at Delaware State University, where he served as founding dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and director of the Graduate
Program in Historic Preservation. He served as a Ford Fellow in African Studies at Howard University in 1996 and at the Carter G. Woodson Institute at the University of Virginia in 1997 and 2000. Dr. Skelcher has published on historic preservation and African American history of education in Delaware. He has been recognized by the Delaware House of Representatives and the Governor of Maryland for his work on African American history.

The Clover Market returns to Kennett Square on SUNDAY JUNE 9 from 10-4 pm with a curated selection of vendors with antiques, vintage, and handmade goods. The Market will also include lineup of savory food trucks, ice cream and sweet treats, Victory Beer, Harvest Ridge Winery, music from Couple Days, kids crafting, meet and greets with the adoptable animals from Finding Shelter Animal rescue, face-painting and henna for all ages, and more!
This year, the Market is part of the Weekend of the Arts in Kennett Square which includes an art show and sale at Genesis Healthcare's 101 E. State Street Building as well as gallery and studio openings and special art events around town throughout the weekend including the First Friday Art Stroll and First Friday Flea Market.
The Market is free and open to the public with plenty of parking at Kennett High School right across the street. Or take the free shuttle looping from the Market to downtown (park at the Linden garage, pickup at the 100 block of Broad Street), courtesy of Historic Kennett Square.

Sunday, June 9 is the 13th annual Chester County Hospital Polo Cup at the Brandywine Polo Club. Proceeds from this year’s event, presented by the Turks Head branch of The Women’s Auxiliary, will benefit the hospital’s Ob/Gyn Clinic and The Women's Auxiliary's Heart to Heart pledge. Festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Brandywine Polo Club, 260 Polo Road in Toughkenamon, with a 3 p.m. start. Delaware County Symphony is offering a one-hour cultural enriching program for children ages 4 to 10 with parents at Neumann University on Monday, June 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. Children will see a colorful PowerPoint presentation on how the symphony creates beautiful classical music. Included in the program will be a session on how to conduct with children given pencils as batons followed by one of our professional violists explaining and demonstrating the difference between a violin and a viola to the children. Seating is limited to 40 and reservations are required at 267-872-6880. After the one hour program, all are invited to step into the adjacent theater to observe and enjoy the symphony during a regularly scheduled rehearsal. Ample free parking is adjacent to the theater.
Enjoy a relaxed morning out with your little one while engaging with art in the galleries at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. This guided tour is designed especially for adults accompanied by babies.

Get access to Kuerner Farm, a National Historic Landmark, where Andrew Wyeth found intriguing subjects for hundreds of tempera paintings, watercolors and drawings for more than 70 years. Artists working in all media are invited to explore the property where they can sketch, paint or photograph. Gain insight into Wyeth’s creative process on an optional guided tour. Participants will meet at the Brandywine River Museum of Art parking lot at 4:15 p.m. before driving their own vehicles to the farm. Water and bathrooms are available at the site. Participants are responsible for providing all art materials.
Continuing the rich tradition of working outdoors in the Brandywine Valley landscape, artists from Delaware Valley Art League will spend two days painting en plein air at the Brandywine River Museum of Art and at N. C. Wyeth’s studio—a National Historic Landmark. Visitors are invited to watch and meet artists at work during their museum visit and on select tours of the N. C. Wyeth House & Studio. In case of inclement weather, artists will set up in protected areas (such as porches) for viewing.
