• A largescale reenactment of the Battle of Brandywine is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, at Sandy Hollow in Birmingham Township. Activities, including the battle reenactment, go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 10-3 on Sunday. More than 800 military reenactors, plus camp followers will take part. The event and parking are free. This year is the 245^th anniversary of the battle fought mostly in Birmingham, and Sandy Hollow is the site where Lafayette was wounded.

• Brandywine River Museum’s exhibit Fragile Earth: The Naturalist Impulse in Contemporary Art, opens this Saturday, Sept. 24. The exhibit showcases the diverse approaches taken by today’s ecologically concerned artists, illustrating their role in advocating for environmental causes.

• Mark your calendars for something that’s nothing but fun. It’s the Great Pumpkin Carve at the Chadds Ford Historical Society. The event is Thursday and Friday, Oct. 20 and 21 from 4-9 p.m., and again on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 3- 9 p.m. More than 70 giant pumpkins will be carved on Thursday and remain on display until Sunday morning. All three nights enjoy a kid friendly Haunted Trail, raffle prizes and live music from "Kenny & Friends." • The Unionville Fair is celebrating its 98^th anniversary from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. It’s the largest display of local agriculture, agribusiness, and handicrafts in southeastern Chester County. The fair judges more than 500 categories for ribbons and cash prizes. A BMX Show will join past fair favorites such as the Ghosts of Chester County Haunted Tent, Giggles & Grins, STEM tent, live music in the Beer & Wine Garden, Cow Pie Bingo, and more. • After a two-year absence, Newlin Grist Mill’s Fall Harvest Festival is returning on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s theme, “Food Traditions Past and Present,” will highlight foods and cooking from the 18th century, along with the trades that made it possible to put food on the table in early America. The festival will feature a variety of historic skills and trades demonstrations, as well as fun activities for kids of all ages. Admission to the Fall Harvest Festival is free for all ages. Parking is $5 per car. Shuttle buses between the parking area and the festival site will run every 15 minutes throughout the event.
