The Kennett Area Democrats are gearing up for the third annual Women’s March on Washington next month. The march is scheduled for Jan.19 and local residents have until Dec, 19 to get bus tickets if traveling with the KAD. Bus tickets are $50 roundtrip on comfortable motor coaches. Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists and organizers to engage in their local communities through training, outreach programs and events.

Chester County Sheriff Carolyn “Bunny” Welsh held her annual Shop with the Sheriff last Saturday. The program, benefitting the Chester County Family Academy students and families. Through donations, each CCFA student gets to spend up to $100 to buy gifts. Students are accompanied by Welsh and her deputies and are greeted by them when they arrive at the Walmart in East Marlborough Township.

Matthew Edward Foster, of Chadds Ford, will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Clemson University ROTC joint commissioning ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 19. Foster, who is majoring in financial management, is among 16 students who are receiving commissions in the U.S. Army or U.S. Air Force at the ceremony.

The Nutcracker runs through Dec. 16 at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on the campus of West Chester University.

Brandywine Ballet presents its annual holiday production of The Nutcracker Dec. 7-16 at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on the campus of West Chester University in West Chester. The ballet features the timeless score of Pyotr Tchaikovsky.  Returning to Chester County each year for more than 35 years, The Nutcracker with Brandywine Ballet offers regional residents and visitors an opportunity to attend a professional ballet production in a local setting.
