Battle of the Brandywine Weekend Returns With Expanded Lineup in Chadds Ford

Battle of the Brandywine Weekend Returns With Expanded Lineup in Chadds Ford

CHADDS FORD, Pa. (Sept. 8, 2025) — The sounds of cannon fire, fifes and drums will once again echo along the Brandywine this weekend as the Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts its annual Battle at Chadds Ford ~ Historic Chadds Ford Days. The two-day festival, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13–14, offers an immersive look into Revolutionary War life while celebrating community spirit and local culture.

Weekend Schedule

On Saturday, gates open at 10 a.m. with battlefield reenactments taking place twice daily, along with military drills for youth, colonial encampments, and demonstrations of historic trades including beer brewing, blacksmithing, wool dyeing and wood carving. Visitors can also browse artisan stalls, meet local authors and nonprofits, and enjoy live music, food trucks and beverages from area producers.

The day culminates with Tavern Night in the Grove from 6–9 p.m., a new addition that organizers say will give visitors a chance to “step back in time” and socialize as their 18th-century counterparts once did. Cannon fire will signal the start of the evening, when the grove transforms into a lively colonial tavern atmosphere under twinkling lanterns and candlelight. Guests can sip local libations from Braeloch Brewery, Chadds Ford Winery, Penn Distillery and others while enjoying hearty food and traditional colonial entertainment.

The Sea Dogs, a well-known maritime and folk music group, will lead sing-alongs of 18th-century songs, encouraging crowd participation much like the taverns of the Revolutionary era. Attendees are invited to dress in period attire, adding to the immersive feel of the night.

2025 Flyer Tavern scaled“Tavern Night is going to be something special,” said Sandi Johnson, event coordinator at the Chadds Ford Historical Society. “It’s more than just music and drinks — it’s a way to capture the spirit of fellowship and fun that colonial taverns brought to their communities. We want people to feel like they’re part of history while enjoying an unforgettable evening together.”

Sunday’s schedule, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., continues the battle reenactments and colonial demonstrations while adding family-friendly activities. Children can try candle making, tin crafting, marble games and period dress-up, with keepsake crafts available for all ages.

A Living History

The annual event commemorates the Sept. 11, 1777 Battle of Brandywine, the largest single-day battle of the American Revolution. Historians note that nearly 30,000 troops clashed that day, forever linking the quiet village of Chadds Ford to the struggle for independence.

“The Battle at Chadds Ford is more than a reenactment,” organizers said. “It’s about connecting today’s community with the heritage of those who fought here nearly 250 years ago — and this year’s Tavern Night gives people a chance to experience not just the battles, but also the camaraderie and culture of the era.”

If You Go

The event takes place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society, 1736 Creek Road, Chadds Ford, Pa. Admission includes access to all reenactments, demonstrations, artisan markets and activities.

Western Delco BPA Kicks Off Year With Farm Party — Opens Doors to New Members

Western Delco BPA Kicks Off Year With Farm Party — Opens Doors to New Members

CHADDS FORD — The Business & Professional Association of Western Delco (Western Delco BPA), a group with deep roots in Delaware County’s & Chadds Ford’s business community, is kicking off its first official gathering with a relaxed networking event at Maple Spring Farm.

The “Home on the Range” farm party on September 10th at 6:00 , hosted by member Sofia Clinger, will be held as both a social evening and a membership drive. Current and prospective members are invited to enjoy dinner by Mizuna Catering, drinks by the pond, and plenty of time to connect with local professionals. Tickets are $40 per person and include food, beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages.

Founded in the 1970s, the BPA has long been a voice for small business owners across Western Delaware County, serving Chadds Ford, Glen Mills, Concord, Garnet Valley, Aston, Media, Springfield, Kennett Square and surrounding communities. The group, led by President Dr. Anne Eunson of Eunson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, focuses on building relationships, sharing business expertise, and advocating for local entrepreneurs.

“Our mission has always been simple — to connect local businesses with one another and with the community,” Eunson said. “We want this to be the place where business owners can find support, visibility and friendships that last.”

Members say the BPA’s strength is in its relationships.

  • “What stands out most is the genuine sense of community,” said James Pace of Propell Credit Union.
  • “Being part of BPA feels like having a team behind you,” added Christina Talbot of Taste & Sea Seafood.
  • Kim Boyle of Opdenaker Trash and Recycling said the group raised her company’s profile,
  • Christina Dell’Orefice of Delightful Detail credited BPA with helping her business grow through confidence and greater visibility.

The BPA has a history of involvement in local development issues, from advocating during the Route 1 expansion to weighing in on retail and infrastructure projects. Today, it continues to monitor government activity and provide a voice for small businesses.

The farm party serves as the group’s annual membership event, with a special incentive for new members: anyone who joins at the event will have the $40 admission credited toward dues, which cover the remainder of 2025 and all of 2026.

“Networking doesn’t have to be stiff,” Eunson said. “We want to create an environment that’s welcoming, engaging, and fun.”

For more information or to attend as a guest, see the event invitation at https://evite.me/RQS4S1AN94 or the new website at www.bapofwesterndelco.com, or contact Dr. Anne Eunson directly.
