The fatal traffic accident at Routes 1 and 202 on Easter Sunday morning was preceded by two gunshots, according to a state police update.
As initially reported, a black BMW crashed into a telephone pole at about 3:37 a.m. Easter Sunday. The car had flipped over and was on its roof, and two occupants were found inside. Neither occupant was named, and they remain unidentified.
The female is described only as a 17-year-old black woman from Brookhaven. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, described only as a 19-year-old white male from Media, was transported to Paoli Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
After several phone calls and emails, an updated press release was issued saying that two shots were fired in the vehicle before the crash. Both occupants suffered gunshot wounds to the head. Additionally, two spent cartridge casings and two firearms were found in the BMW.
The updated release, which was prepared on April 22 but not released until April 29, said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran through several red lights before the crash. It also said the driver was not expected to survive. The update added that there is no threat to the public.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police, Media station, at 484-840-1000.
The investigation is continuing.
