The Kennett Symphony picked up an extra $385 without a note of music. The fundraiser was Dine Out for Charity held at Sedona Taphouse in West Chester during February.

Kennett Symphony Board Vice President Colin Hanna explained how the month-long event played out.

“The way it works is that Sedona offers two special half-price menu items on Mondays (only) during a given month — one steak and one salmon. The associated charity is named with the two menu specials. When someone purchases either item, $1 is set aside for the charity.”

The $385 means that on the four Mondays in February, 385 people took advantage of one of the two special menu items, an average of roughly 96 diners per Monday, Hanna said, adding “I think that's pretty good. It generates great goodwill, both for the restaurant and the symphony.”

The steak and salmon dishes were half-price for the fundraiser. Sedona Taphouse Manager Joe Coffman presented the check to Hanna.

In an earlier press release, the symphony expressed thanks to Sedona Taphouse and said, “The funds raised will go directly toward continuing Kennett Symphony’s commitment to enriching the lives of the local community through music.”

The Kennett Symphony played a concert at Longwood Gardens on March 23, and its next scheduled performance is a Mother’s Day chamber music special with the symphony’s String Quartet that will take place on May 10, in Copeland Lecture Hall at Winterthur.

That performance is billed as “an intimate chamber music performance” and will feature William Grant Still’s Lyric Quartette and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quartet No. 14 in G Major “Spring Quartet.” Performance tickets are $25, with attendees able to add admission to Winterthur Museum, and Library for just $10.

The season finale for the symphony — Masterworks 3: Fiesta — is at Longwood again on June 26, this time in the Open Air Theater. That program features dance music from Ginastera, Piazzolla, and de Falla. Ana Vidovic, a world-renowned guitarist, will add to the color and excitement of the evening, according to the press release.

Attendees to that performance can help support the Kennett Symphony at its Carnegie Hall debut by entering a raffle for $20 per ticket. There will be four prizes:

  • First Prize: Exclusive NYC getaway for two – a concert at Carnegie Hall, dinner at Trattoria Dell’Arte, and a night at a hotel.
  • Second Prize: A VIP Steinway & Sons day for two in New York City, with a behind-the-scenes factory tour, lunch, and a private tour of Steinway Hall.
  • Third Prize: Personal dinner with Maestro Michael Hall and a private piano recital.
  • Fourth Prize: $500 cash and a road trip in Dave Ventura’s 1923 Franklin automobile.
