The current exhibit Rooted: Family and Nature in Contemporary Children’s Book Illustrations continues at the Brandywine River Museum of Art through Feb. 28. This exhibition explores the enduring bonds of nature and family through a lively presentation of original artwork from eight illustrated children’s books. The illustrations on view will feature a diverse group of protagonists who experience compelling moments in their everyday lives, whether it be finding appreciation for the wonders of nature or feeling joy in activities with family in the outdoors.

Delaware County Symphony will hold a Holiday Chamber Concert at 3 p.m. in the Neumann University Meagher Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 17. This chamber concert includes performers from all the sections of the orchestra. Playing traditional carols and Hanukkah music along with more lighthearted holiday tunes, there will be quartets of brass instruments and saxophones, duets, and trios with flutes and percussion instruments, and a string ensemble. Garden photography in a flash at Longwood Gardens.

From Jan. 17-24, Longwood Gardens is holding a photography class Garden Photography in a Flash. Add flash photography to your repertoire of skills and get early, exclusive access to the Conservatory before the Gardens opens to guests in this beginner-friendly photography class. This class begins with an online introduction to flash photography equipment and techniques, followed by a hands-on session in the Conservatory. Round out the experience by joining your instructor and fellow photographers online for a critique of the photos taken during the onsite session. The fee is $149, $134 for members. As part of Winterthur’s Wonderful Wednesdays, visitors can soak in the evening glow of the house decked in its holiday glory or toast marshmallows by the outdoor fire pits. Tap your toes to the sounds of Wilmington’s best jazz, savor a seasonal cocktail, and see our magical gingerbread and doll houses. Included with admission. Members free. Ticket includes a self-paced house tour, live music, gingerbread, and dollhouse viewing, exhibitions, and shopping in the museum store (open until 8 p.m). Yuletide workshops are available for an additional fee. Food and drink are available for purchase. House tours have limited capacity. On Dec. 20, it’s music by Jackie Brown Jazz Nonet. Holiday festivities continued last week with a menorah lighting at Glen Eagle Shopping Center on Thursday, Dec. 7, the first night of Hanukkah. There was also a small party featuring a dreidel-shaped piñata for the kids.
