Police Log Oct. 11: Fatal DUI, assault

Pennsylvania State Police said Elaine McQuillin, 67, of West Chester, was killed in a two-car crash in Pocopson Township on Oct. 3. A juvenile passenger in McQuillin’s vehicle was injured, transported to a trauma center, and later released. The police report said she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, Lenape Road just north of Overlook Circle. The other driver, identified only as a 24-year-old man from Kennett Square, was also injured and transported to a trauma center for life-threatening injuries. Police said the man was driving south on Lenape Road but crossed over into the northbound lane, striking the oncoming car. He is suspected of DUI, according to the report. The accident happened at approximately 8:14 p.m.

A disabled vehicle led to the arrest of a 19-year-old woman in Pennsbury Township on Oct. 8. Details were not released, but the report said the young woman was arrested for DUI with alcohol in view. The arrest came at 2:42 a.m. on S. Creek Road.

A 53-year-old woman from Thorndale was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop on E. State Street at Wickersham Lane in East Marlborough Township shortly before 1 a.m. on Oct. 7. The report said traffic violations were the reason for the traffic stop.

A single-car crash on Route 1 in Pennsbury Township led to the arrest of a New Jersey man for DUI and endangering the welfare of a child. Police said the man, not identified other than he’s 38 years old and from Paulsboro, was heavily intoxicated when they arrived at the scene of the crash, Route 1 and Pennsbury Way. In the car with him was a 32-year-old woman, also from Paulsboro, and a 2-year-old girl. The accident happened on Oct. 1 at approximately 10:30 p.m.

A 22-year-old woman from Philadelphia was arrested for DUI with drugs in Kennett Township on Oct. 3. The arrest came at 11:08 p.m. According to the report, police initiated a traffic stop on Lenape Road at Route 1, for vehicle code infractions. After making contact with the driver, police detected a strong odor of marijuana. Drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view, and the operator admitted to having recently smoked marijuana. Field sobriety tests were administered and they indicated impairment, so the driver was taken into custody.

Kennett Square Police Department

A police report said Andrew Jackson, 35, was charged with simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct, following an altercation in which he allegedly struck a woman in the face causing a small laceration near her mouth. The incident occurred on Sept. 29, at approximately 6:39 p.m. in the 300 block of E. Linden Street. Jackson was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking at Chester County Prison. Charges were filed at District Court 15-3-04. The case is pending a preliminary hearing.
