"Oliver" comes to Longwood Gardens on July 26.

The Brandywiners, Ltd., presents the musical Oliver at Longwood Gardens. The show, the winner of three Tony Awards, is Lionel Bart’s coming-of-age stage musical based upon the 1838 novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens. It takes audiences on a wild adventure throughout Victorian England. Performances are scheduled for Wednesday, July 26–Saturday, July 29, at 8 p.m. at Longwood’s open-air theatre. Reserved seating tickets are $33 and are available here.

Delaware County is hosting Career Fairs this summer for a large number of open full-time positions. The fair dates are Wednesday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both fairs will be held at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, located at 200 Yale Avenue, in Morton, PA 19070 (Rooms 150-151). Multiple departments are looking to hire, including the Department of Human Services, the George W. Hill Correctional Facility, Fair Acres, Park Police, the Bureau of Elections, IT, the Health Department (June & August Career Fairs only), and Personnel. Enjoy a Summer Splash at The Barn at Spring Brook Farm on July 15.

The Barn at Spring Brook Farm at 360 Locust Grove Road, West Chester, invites children with disabilities and their families and friends to Summer Splash on Saturday, July 15, from noon to 3 p.m.  Children can meet The Barn’s resident animals; learn about The Barn’s programs; take a hayride around the farm; play in the wheelchair-accessible treehouse; participate in crafts and more. All are welcome to bring a snack to share (please no nuts and label food ingredients). No RSVP is necessary for this event although a minimum donation of $5 per child attending will be appreciated.

Registration is coming to an end for the Improv Camp at Delaware’s City Theatre Co. This is a weeklong camp — July 17-21 — where students, ages 11-14, will learn about the art of comedy improvisation (also known as making stuff up as you go along) — an art that definitely translates to lots of real-life skills. Plus, have a lot of fun. Students will learn a variety of improvisational skills that include warm-ups, games, characterization, and more. No theater experience is necessary. The cost is $250. Register here. Another camp for older students is scheduled for July 31 to Aug. 4.

Women artists bring their observations and interpretations of nature to the Delaware Center for Horticulture later this summer.

The Regional Center for Women in the Arts and the Delaware Center for Horticulture have combined to present a show on the observation and interpretation of nature, by three established women artists. Artists Susan Foley, Nancy Sarangoulis, and Deborah Zuchman will exhibit their work at the Delaware Center for Horticulture, 1810 N. Dupont Street in Wilmington, from Sept. 8 through Oct. 30. The exhibition opens with a reception to meet the artists on Friday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 until 8 p.m. RCWA is donating 50 percent of all sales to the Delaware Center for Horticulture for stipends to women artists to help exhibit their work.

Chester County 4-H will be offering an introduction to sewing and quilting program, Summer of Stitches. The camp will be held July 24 to 28, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Romano 4-H Center of Chester County. During the week, campers will learn to use a sewing machine and will complete several projects, ending the week with an amazing piece and top-stitched quilt.  The camp is intended for children 10 and older and will be appropriate for new and intermediate sewists. Cost for the camp is $100, or $70 for current 4-H members.
