Police said two men stole items from two unlocked cars parked on Thomas Speakman Drive in Concord Township on Feb. 17. The unknown suspects stole a bulk ring of keys and a $120 Lancer makeup kit, then fled in two stolen vehicles out of New Castle, Del.

Avondale Barracks

Police arrested a 26-year-old man from Kennett Square for DUI on Feb. 11. The driver was not identified, but police said they initiated a traffic stop on Union Street, just south of E. Cedar Street at 12:44 a.m. Upon speaking to the driver, the report said a strong odor of alcohol was detected. Field sobriety tests were performed, and the driver was arrested.

Police arrested a driver, not identified, for DUI on Saturday, Feb. 11, on W. Cypress Street at Sams Lane in Kennett Square, just after 10 p.m.  Police said they made the traffic stop because of traffic violations and found multiple open containers of alcohol in plain view.

Police arrested a 62-year-old woman from Coatesville on DUI charges following a two-car crash at N. Chatham and Old Hilton roads on Feb. 18. Details of the accident were not released.

A 28-year-old woman from Kennett Square was arrested for shoplifting at the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on Feb. 18. The woman was not identified in the report, but she allegedly left the store without paying for $88 worth of merchandise.

Police said they arrested two people on Feb. 17 for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Township Walmart. The pair were not named, but police said one was a 43-year-old man from Marcus Hook, and the other was a 36-year-old woman from Philadelphia. Police said the suspects under-rang multiple items at self-checkout.

Police arrested a 23-year-old woman from Newark for shoplifting from Ulta Beauty in Kennett Square on Feb. 16. The report said the unknown suspect took items past the point of sale and threatened to pepper spray an employee who approached her.

Melissa S. Ward, 30, of Newark, was charged with careless driving following in two-car crash in Pennsbury on Feb. 14, a police report said. The accident happened on Route 926 near Lenape Road at 4:43 p.m. According to the report, Ward was northbound on 926 when she tried to turn left into a gas station and struck the other vehicle heading south on 926. No injuries were reported.

Police said they arrested Sean Krapf, 34, of Malvern, following a one-vehicle crash at Green Valley and W. Doe Run roads in East Marlborough Township on Feb. 14. The report said Krapf showed signs of impairment and was taken to Paoli Hospital for evaluation. The accident happened at 6:45 a.m.

Kennett Square Police Department

An arrest warrant was issued for Byron Mordecai on Feb. 13, for an incident on June 30, 2022. Police said they were contacted by the Pennsylvania State Police Investigation Unit regarding an individual, later identified as Byron Mordecai, from Spring City, who had attempted to acquire firearms through a licensed firearms dealer, located in Kennett Square Borough. The dealer conducted a background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System and the information obtained through the background check indicated Mordecai is prohibited from acquiring a firearm. Charges of sale or transfer of firearms and unsworn falsifications to authorities were filed at District Court 15-3-04.

Police said Nancy Ortiz-Ocha, 39, of Kennett Square, was charged with simple assault and harassment following an incident in which she allegedly struck a male subject in the upper, left arm with a large umbrella approximately three to four times causing minor swelling and bruising. This incident happened on Jan. 28, at approximately 3:52 p.m., in the 600 block of Crossing Court in Kennett Square.
