Anthony Leon Bralczyk of Concord Township

Anthony “Tony” “Poppy” Leon Bralczyk of Maris Grove Retirement Community in Concord Township died Thursday, Nov. 24, at the age of 84.

Anthony Leon Bralczyk

Tony was born in Shenandoah, Pa. to Anthony Bralczyk, a coal miner, and Constance Bralczyk, a homemaker. The youngest of seven children, Tony attended Girard College for Boys in Philadelphia where he was senior student body president and vice president of the National Honor Society and graduated in 1956. After high school, he entered the then-new field of data processing as part of the first generation of computer programmers at an industrial company in Philadelphia. He married Dolores Lillian Minka of Chester in 1962. Tony attended La Salle College graduating in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in general business. He retired from a long career in business software in 2004.

Tony and Dolores moved to Aston in 1969 where they happily raised four children and lived for over 53 years. The family faithfully worshipped at The Church of St. Joseph in Aston. He adored his wife Dolores his beloved “Hon”, and cherished time with family, particularly with his grandchildren. He always looked forward to pancakes on the weekend, an early morning drive for fresh donuts and coffee, and cocktails with close friends. A natural host and entertainer he always knew how to put guests at ease, usually starting with a gimlet. Tony was an avid reader of all subjects and enjoyed crossword puzzles, making his own wine, and baking bread for the holidays (his famous “poppy bread”) which was eagerly anticipated by his family. He will be especially remembered for his love of Girard College and his Girard classmates. For his devotion to them, he was awarded the Girard College Alumni Award of Merit in 2019. Tony was a kind, gentle man. If you knew him, you loved him, and he will be deeply missed by all.

In addition to his wife with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter, Leslie Petrick, and her husband, Paul of Avondale, three sons: Gregory and his wife, Trish of Drexel Hill,  Timothy and his husband, Martin Torre of New York, NY, and Todd Thurston-Bralczyk and his husband, Brian of London, England; seven grandchildren: Alexander and his fiancé, Molly; Nicholas and his fiancé, Alyssa; Matthew and his wife, Megan; Olivia, Mackenzie, Anthony, and Daniel, and his many nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his brother, Charles Bralczyk, and his five sisters Bertha Zuber, Helen Richards, Stella Steslow, Florence Piaskowski, and Theresa Sefcik.
