A flood warning is in effect for the Brandywine Creek and its tributaries Thursday, May 17 through Saturday, May 19 due to forecasts of heavy rain. Use caution on roads that cross rivers, creeks and streams and do not drive through flooded areas. Intersections and roads in Chadds Ford Township that are susceptible to flooding are Route 1 and Creek Road, Camly Lane and Creek Road, Ring Road, Heyburn Road, Smithbridge and Ridge Roads and Bullock Road. Dial 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.

Do you have a soft spot for shy kitties? If so, you might just fall in love with Pickles. Pickles arrived as a stray, and at 12 years old, a shelter is no place for this sweetie. He does take some time to warm up to new folks, but once he does, he’s affectionate, gentle, and loves to be petted. Pickles is hoping for a quiet, calm home where he can relax in his golden years, and he wouldn’t mind the company of another low-key pet like him. Learn about endangered species at the Delaware Museum of Natural History this Saturday.
• The Delaware Museum of Natural History will recognize Endangered Species Day on Saturday, May 19 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. with hands-on learning stations, activities, and expert presentations. Visitors will learn about some of the issues threatening the environment, and more important, what they can do to help protect endangered species. The day includes a special presentation on chimpanzee conservation at 11 a.m. and a look at elephants, turtles and more at noon.
• Musicians from the Curtis Opera Theater will perform at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center Tuesday, May 22 at 7 pm. Third in the Curtis on tour concert series, this performance features future stars of opera in a thrilling and diverse program including arias, duets and the American songbook, in celebration of the centenary of Curtis alumnus Leonard Bernstein. Three talented classical music artists are appearing at Uptown! by special arrangement with Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn Global Touring Initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music. Uptown! • Neumann University’s Center for Leadership will host a workshop on sexual harassment in the workplace on Tuesday, May 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Employment law attorneys and human resource professionals will provide information on issues related to sexual harassment including the current landscape, employee rights, and best practices for employers related to training, establishing office policies, putting in place reporting structures, and reviewing complaints. A mock sexual harassment deposition and Q&A panel to answer attendee questions will be held following the panelists’ individual presentations. • It’s the 47th annual Memorial Day Weekend Antiques Show at the Brandywine River Museum of Art held this year May 26-28. The show will feature objects displayed throughout the museum and in the courtyard from 26 of the country’s most distinguished dealers, hailing from 10 states across the mid-Atlantic.
