The Delaware County District Attorney’s office has announced the arrest of a 41-year-old man for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.

District Attorney Jack Whelan said Matthew Paul Maffei, of Aston Township, is now in prison for assaulting the girl at her home in Middletown, De.

According to police, Maffei assaulted and took naked photographs of the victim with his cell phone, which he later copied to a flash drive storage device.  Maffei faces 225 counts of possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communications facility. He is also charged with the sexual abuse of children, all felonies of the third degree.

According to the arrest affidavit, Maffei confessed to the assault and to taking the photographs.

The arrest is the conclusion of an investigation that began following a report of assault in Middletown, Delaware, conducted by Det. Kenneth Bellis of the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division who is a member of the Pennsylvania Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Aston Township Police Department and Middletown Police Department, Delaware.

Maffei was remanded to the Delaware County prison after he failed to post $250,000 cash bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim or any other minor, and have no Internet use.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 24.
