I am running for Register of Wills. To me, the position is about families. It is where couples go to get their marriage license and begin their family, and where they may go later to probate the will of a loved one. If you live in Delaware County most of your life, you will likely be at the Register of Wills at least once. That is why it is important to me that the office operate efficiently, with a high level of service and that all who enter the office are treated with compassion.
The process can sometimes be confusing, and I intend to develop forms, checklists and other information online that will help residents and attorneys maneuver through the process as easily as possible. I appreciate all the support I’ve received from residents and local attorneys and intend to continue our dialogue after the election to receive their input on ways to improve their experiences.
I was born in Delaware County, have lived here most of my life. I am so grateful for the many opportunities Delaware County affords to me and my family. I am an attorney in private practice where for almost two decades I have served as an advisor and counselor to municipal and county agencies, elected officials, police departments and school districts. I have extensive experience dealing with matters on the county level and understand the many facets of county government and policy. I have also served as solicitor for the Domestic Relations Section of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas and as a school district hearing officer. I still serve as an arbitrator.
Often, a will may be challenged, and in such circumstances, the register of wills essentially acts as a judge, listening to testimony, reviewing evidence, applying the applicable law and rendering a decision as to whether the document offered should be accepted for probate. I’ve served in this quasi-judicial capacity before when I was a hearing officer and arbitrator. I have drafted wills and guardianship petitions, and have managed offices. It has always been my aim to create a positive work environment that benefits employees as well as clients. It is my intention to use the experience that I've gained in the private sector to strengthen internal controls and maximize efficiencies in the Delaware County Register of Wills office.
