Eleanor Wright Willard, 90, of Kennett Square

Eleanor Wright Willard, 90, of Kennett Square died Thursday, May 3. She was a recent resident at Linden Hall. Eleanor was born in Bramwell, W.V. to the late Luddie G. and Ethel Bennett Wright, on June 23, 1921. She was the beloved wife of Robert A. Willard, who died in 2003, and with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. She grew up in western Virginia and moved to Chester County as a young adult.

She was a homemaker who shared her love of cooking and gardening while raising her family. Eleanor was an avid golfer in earlier years, and was a member of the Women's Golf Association of Philadelphia, and former member of the Kennett Square Golf and Country Club. In addition to her love of golf, she was a member of the Embroiderers' Guild of America and was talented in crewel needlework. She stitched many works of art through the years and passed many pieces down to her children and grandchildren. She often referred to her work as painting with a needle. She took several trips to New England with other crewel enthusiasts for advanced instruction in the art of needlework. Eleanor volunteered many hours at The Encore Shop in Kennett Square to help support The Chester County Hospital. She attended Willowdale Chapel for several years and was involved in various bible study groups and enjoyed attending the Ladies Sunday School Class.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Robert D. Willard, and wife Donna, of New London, Jeffrey L. Willard and wife Kathleen of Landenberg, and Kimberly Willard Steele and husband James, of Landenberg, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by one brother, Luddie Wright Jr. of Oxford, and one sister Patricia Winpigler of Myersville, Md. She was predeceased by two brothers William Dale Wright, and Robert Lee Wright.

The family would like to thank the staff of Linden Hall and Willow Tree Hospice for their compassionate support and care of our beloved Mother.
