Carl H. Benke Jr. of West Grove

Carl H. Benke Jr., 79, of West Grove, died Sunday, Oct.
16, at Brandywine Hall in West Chester. He was the husband of Elaine Walker
Benke, who died in 2006, and with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Carl H. and
Kathryn Nolan Benke.

He was an instructor of Industrial Arts in the Rose Tree
Media School District for 31 years, retiring in 1986. He received his bachelor’s
degree from Millersville University and a master’s degree from the University
of Pennsylvania and a second master’s from West Chester University.

Carl served his country in the US Navy from 1951 thru 1955,
where he served in the Naval Air Rescue, and he is credited with rescuing 43
Pilots.

He owned several antique cars and was active in the Chester
County Antique Car Club.

He is survived by two sons, Carl H. ”Chip” Benke, III and
his wife Chris of Oxford, and Scott W. Benke and his wife Traci of Waynesburg;
twin daughters, Laura McLaughlin and her husband Corey of Coatesville, and
Linda DiValerio of Downingtown, and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one brother, John Benke.

You are invited to visit with Carl’s family and friends from
6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, and again from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at
the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA
(Phone: 610-444-4116). His funeral service will follow at 11:00. Burial will be
in Longwood Cemetery, Kennett Square.
