Helen was born in Newark on April
4, 1919, the daughter of the late Willett Downey and Ida Lloyd
Anderson. She grew up in Blue Ball, Md. New London, Calvert, Md.,
and lived her adult life in Landenberg and Newark.

She was a graduate of New
London Academy and Calvert Agricultural High School, Calvert, Md.
Following graduation from Beacom College, she was first employed with Atlas
Powder Company, then worked for DuPont Engineering-Louviers until 1981
retirement.

She enjoyed many years of
volunteering with the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation; was a member of Daughters of
the American Revolution, and the Kemblesville United Methodist Church.
Helen enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing, baking, traveling, the Phillies but
most of all being with her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her loving
sister, Margaret (Peg) Hickey and brother Walter (Bud) Anderson. Survived by
sons Virgil Willett Brown (Linda) and Jay Robert Brown (Janet) of Landenberg;
daughter Jane E. Brown of Wilmington; grandchildren Michael Kevin Brown, Mark
Chandlee Brown, Amy Elizabeth Brown Rector (Matt) of Landenberg; Karen
Lynn Brown Alizzi and great-grandson Zachary Alizzi of Chalfont.

A service in celebration of her
life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Kemblesville United
Methodist Church, Route 896, Kemblesville where friends may greet the family at
9:30 a.m. Burial at Brick Meeting Cemetery, Calvert Md..
