Norbert “Nib” Aubuchon of Kennett Square

Norbert “Nib” Aubuchon, 91, of
Kennett Square, died Monday March 14, at his home surrounded by his family. He
was the husband of Patricia Albanese Aubuchon, with whom he shared 63 years of
marriage.

Born in Louisville, Ky., he was
the son of the late William N. and Ada P. Aubuchon.

Nib was raised in Bronxville, N.Y.,
was graduated from the Dwight Preparatory School in New York City, and was a
member of the class of 1942 at Brown University. Nib accepted a commission in the United States Navy in 1941
and was called to active duty immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He
served against the Germans in the anti-submarine war in the Caribbean and later
became a naval aviator and served as both a test pilot and ferry pilot during
the balance of WWII. This
experience led him later to a second aviation career as a writer/editor. Nib continued his service in the
organized Naval Reserve.

He worked for the DuPont Company
in advertising, sales and marketing for 34 years, but aviation remained a
passionate interest. As a civilian aviator he wrote for Popular Science
magazine and later became a contributing editor for Flying Magazine. He flew
nearly every kind of aircraft extant including gliders and helicopters.

He was a member of the Wings Club
in New York City, the Cuvier Press Club in Cincinnati, the Rotary Club of
Longwood, the Kennett Square Golf & Country Club and the Kennett koffee
klub. He was also the founding president of the Catholic Information Center in
Wilmington.

After retiring from DuPont, he
started a new business dedicated to training on persuasion skills. A book, The
Anatomy of Persuasion, resulted from the experience and was published in 1997.
Later, he helped develop a new international business manufacturing industrial
products. As a writer, whose
spelling left something to be desired, he asked that his epitaph read as
follows: “I hope this is my last typographical ERRORR.”

Surviving are his wife, two
daughters, Nancy A. Bradley and Susan M. Aubuchon, two sons-in-law, Michael
Bradley, Mark Ferraro and three grandchildren, Sarah, Ben and Ruth Bradley.

You are invited to visit with Nib’s
family from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday March 19, at the Kuzo and Grieco Funeral
Home, Inc., 250 W. State Street, Kennett Square. A memorial mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick
Catholic Church. Interment will be
held at a later date.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kennett Area Senior
Center, 427 S. Walnut Street, Kennett Square, PA. To send an online condolence, please visit www.griecocares.com.
