Delaware County has reacted to the National Weather Service’s heat advisory with tips to stay safe. The heat advisory is for Tuesday, June 18 through Saturday, June 22. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s during the week, and AccuWeather is reporting that temperatures could reach 100 in some areas of the Midwest and Northeast.

Here are some vital tips to help you beat the heat:

  1. Stay Cool Indoors: Whenever possible, remain in air-conditioned locations. Whether at home, a local mall, or a public library, air conditioning is the most effective way to combat heat.
  2. Hydrate Regularly: Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Avoid beverages containing alcohol, caffeine, or excessive sugar as they can dehydrate you further.
  3. Check on Others: Be mindful of friends, neighbors, and especially older adults who may be more vulnerable to the heat. A quick check-in can make a significant difference.
  4. Protect Children and Pets: Never leave children or pets in vehicles, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a car can escalate quickly, posing severe risks.
