Members of the Chadds Ford Business Association took part in a food drive benefiting the Salvation Army of West Chester. The group gave the food to Capt. Maria Corralizza during the Dec. 6 lunch meeting held at The Gables in Pennsbury Township.

Capt. Maria Corralizza explains some of the history and mission of the Salvation Army.

Corralizza thanked the association while speaking briefly on the history and mission of the Salvation Army.

“Because of you, we’re able to do what we do, she said.

They serve 13,000 meals per year and 100 people use the army’s “Choice Pantry” where they can get food for themselves and their family. It’s similar to a mini-mart where those in need can select fresh food, paper products and personal care products.

Corralizza said the Salvation Army is quasi-military but is also a church. Area commanders, such as she and her husband, are also ministers. The Salvation Army has been in existence for 154 years, is in 120 different countries and in West Chester for the past 75 years.

Additionally, the West Chester Salvation Army gives out 2,400 toys during the Christmas Season.

Anyone interested in donating, time, money or food should contact the Salvation Army of West Chester at 610-696-8746.
