Bringing in the holiday season

Dancers from Longwood Performing Arts open the annual parade and tree-lighting in Kennett Square Friday night.

It was a traditional Black Friday weekend in the greater Chadds Ford area, from Chadds Ford Township to Kennett Square. The Brandywine River Museum of Art opened another Brandywine Christmas featuring the always popular O-gauge trains and Kennett Square held its tree-lighting parade that brought in the New Years’ Eve mushroom to be dropped at midnight on Dec. 31 and the appearance of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Visitors young and old enjoy the O-gauge train display at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. The display consists of more than 1,000 pieces and almost 2,000 feet of track. The trains will be chugging along in the second-floor gallery through Jan. 5.
Getting ready for New Yeats’s Eve, the Kennett Square Christmas parade brings in the 500-pound mushroom that will drop to usher in 2020.
Some people are a bit leery of Santa’s four-legged friend.
Santa and Mrs. Claus hear holiday wishes from youngsters at Salon Sestra in Olde Ridge Village on Saturday.
While not specifically Christmas season oriented, re-enactors have a bang-up time during Saturday’s Patriots’ Day at the Brandywine Battlefield Park.
