Enjoy a special farm-to-table dinner prepared by Chef Mike Kline of the Brandywine River Museum of Art’s Millstone Café using vegetables grown by SIW Vegetables. Hosted by H.G. Haskell, III, this dinner will take place in a historic barn on Hill Girt Farm, which is one of the first properties placed under conservation easement by the Brandywine Conservancy—permanently protecting the land from development. Directions to the location are included in the acknowledgment email of your purchase. Casual dress and comfortable footwear are suggested for this intimate evening. Participants are welcomed to bring their own alcoholic beverages to enjoy during their meal.
About the Chef: Chef Mike Kline is the Executive Chef of the Millstone Café at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. He specializes in creating delicious dishes with a focus on fresh, locally sourced and seasonally inspired ingredients. Growing up near a mushroom farm in Kennett Square, Chef Kline started his career at the DK Diner and Teca Restaurant in West Chester, working his way up in the ranks. This journey brought him to Kennett Square’s Sovana Bistro, and then later Blanch & Shock Catering. Prior to joining the Brandywine as Executive Chef, Kline worked for two years as the Millstone Café’s sous chef and Blanch & Shock catering chef.

Looking for something fun and educational to do with the kids while they're out of school for the summer? During this year's Terrific Tuesdays we begin with the pre-historic era, inspired by some fun fossils recently “discovered” on our patio, then zoom forward to 1600. From that point, we advance 50 years each week, exploring some of the customs, discoveries, and otherwise momentous moments along the way.
Special guests will be on hand to highlight skills and trades from the past and present.
Each week will feature a different time period and a different special guest:

July 16: 1650-1700
July 23: 1700-1750
July 30: 1750-1800
August 6: 1800-1850

Get access to Kuerner Farm, a National Historic Landmark, where artist Andrew Wyeth found intriguing subjects for hundreds of tempera paintings, watercolors and drawings for more than 70 years. Artists working in all media are invited to explore the property where they can sketch, paint or photograph. Gain insight into Wyeth’s creative process on an optional guided tour. Participants will meet at the Brandywine River Museum of Art parking lot at 4:15 p.m. before driving their own vehicles to the farm. Water and bathrooms are available at the site. Participants are responsible for providing all art materials.
YOUNG COMPOSERS WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE AT BRANDYWINE RIVER MUSEUM OF ART
Led by local pianist and composer Jennifer Nicole Campbell, four student composers will be premiering their musical compositions inspired by specific visual works at the Museum. Throughout the summer, each student has worked to fuse together their once-abstract ideas into the reality of a new piece of music. Jennifer Nicole Campbell has performed at halls including Lincoln Center, the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, the Musikhauset Aarhus in Denmark, and the Explorer’s Club in New York. She graduated from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master Degrees in Piano Performance and Composition. An avid composer, Ms. Campbell’s music has been performed by numerous prominent artists, and she also composes numerous works for the Academy of International Ballet, with whom she has served as Composer In Residence since 2017. Come to the Brandywine River Museum of Art to unwind, mingle and make art! Designed for adults who want to awaken their inner artists, this program will include inspiration from the exhibition N. C. Wyeth: New Perspectives, and will feature a hands-on opportunity to paint with alcohol inks. Participants will be guided in applying inks to paper and ceramic tiles, and each person will take home a set of four ceramic tiles that may be used as coasters or for display. No experience necessary. Program fee includes art materials and light refreshments. BYOB!
County Commissioners to hold “Ice cream and Conversation” evening at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt in Berwyn
Chester County Commissioners Michelle Kichline, Kathi Cozzone and Terence Farrell announce the location of the next “Conversations with the Commissioners” evening, part of a series of informal open-forum gatherings held throughout Chester County during the year. Moving from the usual “coffee and conversation” theme, the Commissioners are offering “ice cream and conversation” during August.
The next “Conversations with the Commissioners” evening is Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt, 576 E. Lancaster Avenue in Berwyn.
“The Commissioners’ conversation evenings follow previous county government information events including ‘On the Road’ Commissioners’ Meetings and the Chester County School of Government series,” said Becky Brain, County Communications Coordinator. “The events give Chester County residents the opportunity to meet with all three County Commissioners to ask questions about county government programs and services that relate to everything from health, safety, open space and population growth to jobs, housing and the County’s many parks and trails.”

Explore some of the hotspots for birds at Winterthur. Naturalist and birder Jessica Shahan will guide you through wetlands, meadows, the woodlands along Clenny Run, and outlying areas, such as chandler Woods and Brown's Woods. These natural areas provide a great habitat for a wide variety of birds year-round. Observe resident birds as well as migrating raptors, warblers, and sparrows. THE MUSHROOM FESTIVAL
A small group of mushroom enthusiasts decided to have a festival to celebrate Kennett Square’s number one cash crop with the hope of raising funds to give as scholarships to local high school students. In 1986 that became a reality as Kennett Square hosted its first Mushroom Festival. It was a one day affair and just one block long. Thirty-two years later the Festival stretches a mile and features culinary events, growing exhibits, children’s entertainment, and 250 vendors with attendance calculated at up to 100,000 guests. The Mushroom Festival’s Grant Program has given over $1,000,000 in grants to local non-profits since 2000. In 2019, 32 organizations received $50,000 in grants from the Mushroom Festival.
Join us this year as the Brandywine Conservancy, East Bradford Township and West Bradford Township team up for a neighborhood collaboration! Inspired by the beauty of the Brandywine Greenway, the 26th Annual Brandywine River Cleanup will encompass the banks of the Brandywine River along Harmony Hill Covered Bridge and Brandywine Meadows Preserve Trail. Volunteers are advised to wear hats, long pants, heavy shoes or boots, and sunscreen. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Lunch will be provided at each cleanup site at noon. This event is appropriate for children over the age of five.
Each year, the Annual Brandywine River Cleanup helps to ensure cleaner water for communities that rely on the Brandywine as a source for their drinking water, a healthier habitat for wildlife, and a safer environment for recreational activities. Since the event's inception, volunteers have removed more than 30 tons of trash from the banks of the Brandywine between Lenape and the Delaware state line.
