Studio to celebrate 40th anniversary @ Chester Springs Studio

Historic Yellow Springs is marking the 40thanniversary of the Chester Springs Studio with the ceramics exhibition Celebrating Clay, September 23 through October 7. Celebrating Clay opens on Sunday, September 23 (2-5pm) with a festive artists’ reception, music by West Chester University’s Steel Drum Ensemble and refreshments provided by the Artisan’s Gallery & Café (Phoenixville) and Heart Food Truck (Pottstown). On October 6, 2-4pm, the celebration continues with ceramics demonstrations, including turning on the wheel and a wood-firing.

‘Embroidery: The Thread of History’ opens @ Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library

A Walk in Penn Woods @ Brandywine Meadows Trails

The Brandywine Conservancy is partnering with our hosts East and West Bradford Townships to present a walk along the Brandywine Creek Greenway on the Brandywine Meadows Trail and the East Branch Brandywine Trail. The guided walk has two start times (9 a.m. or 11 a.m.) and will last between 1-2 hours. All ages welcome; pets permitted on leash. Bring water and wear hiking shoes or comfortable walking shoes. There will be options to walk on unpaved trails or stay on level paved trails—the paved trail is stroller-friendly and wheelchair accessible.
No pre-registration required. Meet at the Brandywine Meadows Parking Lot (near the trestle bridge) 1355 Downingtown Pike, Downingtown, PA 19335.

This walk is part of a daylong event promoting “A Walk in Penn’s Woods” throughout Pennsylvania.

The Academy of International Ballet, located in Media, PA, offers training in classical ballet to a wide spectrum of students in the finest traditions of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, using their time-honored Russian-based Vaganova ballet method. Kuerner. As the grandson of two of Andrew Wyeth’s best-known subjects and a student of Carolyn Wyeth, Karl’s personal experiences with the farm provide special insight into the property and its rich history. Music on the Brandywine – Jordan Dodson @ Brandywine River Museum of Art

“One of the top young guitarists of his generation” (Performance Today), Jordan Dodson is an active soloist and chamber musician based in New York and Philadelphia.
In the fall of 2011, Mr. Dodson was one of two guitarists selected to inaugurate the Curtis Institute of Music’s new program in classical guitar, from where he graduated in 2013. He also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music.

Enjoy mead from Philly Homebrew and hard cider from Rebel Seed Cidery while learning about our historic apple orchard and the honeybees that help pollinate it.

June 14th: “Baked & Bottled”

The Newlin staff will be firing up the reconstructed outdoor bake oven to make a variety of fresh bread. Chat with them while sipping wine from Penns Woods Winery.

September 13th: “Bellows & Beer”

Our blacksmiths will be at the forge to demonstrate their ironworking skills while visitors enjoy locally-made beer from Levante Brewing Company.

October: “Mills & Stills”

See what’s happening in the new millwright’s shop in the 1704 Grist Mill! The Manatawny Still Works will be on hand to provide tastings of their handcrafted spirits during the program.

LAST COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION EVENT FOR 2018

The Chester County Recycling Coordinator, Nancy Fromnick, announced the last Chester County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event for Chester County residents on Saturday, October 13 at the Government Services Center, 601 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19380. The collection site will be open at 9:00 AM and will close at 3:00 PM sharp.

This event is not for businesses and contractors.

 No more than 220 pounds or 25 gallons of Hazardous Products per household will be accepted. Hazardous cleaning and maintenance products will have the following cautionary words on the label: poisonous, caustic, toxic, flammable, ignitable, corrosive, reactive, caution, warning, danger or hazardous. Many items, such as fertilizer or cleaning products, should be used as they were designed to be used and do not need to be treated as hazardous waste.

Unacceptable materials are latex paint, used motor oil, tires, asbestos, explosives, gas cylinders, household alkaline batteries, PCBs, medical waste, unidentified waste, commercial and industrial waste, ammunition and appliances containing Freon or liquids in 55 gallon drums.

 LATEX PAINT IS NOT HAZARDOUS WASTE!  Residents should not bring latex paint to Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events. Solidify latex paint by either air drying small quantities or pouring the paint into a plastic trash bag with sawdust, clay-based kitty litter, rags or saw dust and placing the bag and the opened can in the trash. Oil-based paint should be brought to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event.

Attendees should be prepared to take back their corrugated boxes to be recycled at the curb and Styrofoam and/or trash to be put in their curbside trash containers.
