Chadds Ford Days began as a way to commemorate the Battle of Brandywine that was fought on September 11, 1777. This important battle played a pivotal role in shaping our nation's future. Although the battle was lost, it helped improve military tactics that resulted in winning the War for Independence and saving America.
As the years went by, the Chadds Ford Days festival grew to include over 60 of the region's finest craftsmen and colonial demonstrators, Revolutionary War reenactors, an array of culinary fare from local restaurants and food trucks, brewers and vintners, antique cars, children's activities, live music, special exhibits, historic tours of the John Chads House and so much more. Featuring hundreds of juried artists exhibiting one-of-a-kind art, the festival is a Delaware tradition spanning over half a century. Each year, up to 20,000 visitors flock to Brandywine Park’s Josephine Gardens for an end-of-summer celebration. Music on the Brandywine: Dolce Suono Trio
Saturday, September 9, enjoy a rare performance of "American Canvas for Flute, Cello, and Piano" by Jennifer Higdon, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, commissioned by Dolce Suono Ensemble. The piece features three movements inspired by great American painters: Andrew Wyeth, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Jackson Pollock.
The trio is comprised of internationally acclaimed artists Mimi Stillman, flutist, founder and artistic director, who is a well-known soloist, chamber musician, and Yamaha Performing Artist; Charles Abramovic, pianist, Professor of Keyboard Studies at Temple University and Stillman's duo partner of 14 years; and Nathan Vickery, cellist and member of The New York Philharmonic.
Museum galleries will be open prior to the performance for guests to view our blockbuster exhibition Andrew Wyeth: In Retrospect which closes September 17.

Landmark Americana Tap and Grill will host its 3nd annual fund-raising golf tournament on Monday, September 11 to raise money for homeless or near homeless families working with Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children.
The event will be held at the Broad Run Golfers Club, located in West Chester. It will include a dinner and auction at 5 p.m. at Landmark Americana, and an awards ceremony. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and shot gun start at 11 a.m.
“Friends Association was able to prevent homelessness for 124 families, including 247 children in Chester County this past year. For an impoverished family, an unexpected expense or a decrease in income can result in eviction and homelessness,” said Catherine Friedman, Friends Association Executive Director.
Organized by the staff and management of Landmark Americana, the golf tournament is part of the corporate culture to support the community in which they live, play and work.
“This organization has touched our hearts by the work they do in our community with local families in need,” said Kyle Veale, Landmark Americana General Manager. “Thanks to the generosity of the many people who make it successful, we are able to make a significant difference in the lives of families in our community.”
Last year’s tournament raised more than $6,000 to support the 124 families between 3 programs with 94% achieving success.

The Garnett Valley Gherkins Pickleball Club will hold an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the O’Donoghue Fieldhouse, 42 South Thornton Road, in Concord Township from 9 a.m. until noon. Admission is free and many door prizes to be awarded including a new pickleball paddle.There will also be free pickleball instruction for beginners and newbies who are wearing athletic foot wear. Wyeth and Watercolor lecture at the Brandywine River Museum
Tuesday, September 12, join us at 6 p.m. for a captivating presentation on Andrew Wyeth's masterful use of watercolor, including his early work and the influence of Winslow Homer.
The lecture will be presented by Kathleen Foster, The Robert L. McNeil, Jr., Senior Curator of American Art, and Director, Center for American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This will be the one of the final lectures for our Andrew Wyeth: In Retrospect exhibition, which closes September 17.

How did Colonists prepare for the hard, winter months? During September’s Tavern Talks we'll be exploring the various ways Colonists planned for the winter, such as preserving foods, sewing and spinning, candle-making and more! Guest demonstrators for the evening include herb drying and preservation with Terra Luna Herbals, cheese preparation with Amazing Acres Goat Dairy, spinning wool with Greenbank Mills & Philips Farm, beekeeping with Brandywine Bee Company, and learning about the power of vinegar with Keepwell Vinegar.
Tavern Talks is a monthly experience (not a lecture!) aimed exclusively for adults 21 and older that focuses on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture. Guests will experience history with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations, and more. Tavern Talks takes place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Barns Brinton House, an historic 1714 tavern, located next to the Chaddsford Winery at 630 Baltimore Pike. Admission is $20 for non-members and $15 for members. Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone, in person or online as space is limited. All attendees must be 21 and older.

The Plantation Field International Horse Trials is a thrilling time for our area and horse enthusiasts from all across the region to have the top event horses and riders in the country come to Unionville to compete.
This festival features a full day of hands-on activities. Visitors will be able to work with professional archaeologists and assist with three different excavations; sift, clean and process artifacts; and see artifact displays from around Delaware County.
