Chester County Studio Tour
Saturday May 20, 2017 from 10 AM to 6 PM
The eighth Chester County Studio Tour will take place on Saturday May 20th from 10-6 PM, and Sunday May 21st from 11-5 PM.
The Chester County Studio Tour was created to promote regional artists and contribute to the cultural vitality of Chester County, by presenting original and diverse artwork in creative working studio settings. 179 artists in different mediums such as painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clay, glass, paper and fiber will showcase their work in 72 studios across Chester County. Many studios on the Tour will feature works-in-progress and artist demonstrations.
We invite art enthusiasts and the curious to experience a rare glimpse into the variety of outstanding art of Chester County as these professional artists exhibit their work during this unique and intimate two-day event. All the artists will be on hand to talk about their work and meet buyers and browsers alike. Whether this is your first time buying art or you are a seasoned collector, this tour has something for everyone, in a wide range of mediums and prices.
Visitors are encouraged to design their own self-guided tour with the catalogue and map, which can be downloaded from www.ChesterCountyStudioTour.com. You can start with the studio closest to you, or anywhere you like, by using the convenient map which has been graciously sponsored by FIG Industries, and our website. In addition, Tolsdorf Oil Lube Express has designed routes that will guide your travels across the county, allowing you to enjoy the view and selected studios.
We are continuing the well-known “County Collector Series.” Otto’s Mini & Otto’s BMW sponsors this opportunity to collect an original framed 6” x 6” piece of art for the special pricing of $75. Our two-dimensional artists have created an original work of art in a simple and elegant 6” x 6” frame, and our three-dimensional artists have also created special pieces for this Collector Series. A photo of each work in this series is included in our catalogue and may also be seen on the website.
The Chester County Studio Tour was created by Jeff Schaller, painter and tour organizer, and is in its eighth year as a successful and much anticipated event.
Free and open to the public. Please visit website www.chestercountystudiotour.com for map, artists and studio listings and for catalogue. Handicapped accessible studios are marked on the studio pages in the catalogue and on the website. Please email [email protected] or call 610.942.9629 for further information.

Open House Marlborough Meeting
Our open house will consist of a number of talks and discussions on Quakerism, as well as a brief taste of traditional silent worship. You are welcome to come for all or any part of the schedule below:
- 2:30 Introduction to Quakerism: A short history and common misconceptions of Quakerism. The focus will be on questions and answers from the audience.
- 3:00 Panel of Friends on their experience with Quakerism:
- 4:00 Doug Gwyn will speak on The Quaker View of the Christian Revelation.
- 5:00 Brief Meeting for Worship
- 5:10 Break and fellowship
- 5:30 Dinner
- 7:00 Public Meeting for Worship
Public Meeting
The Public Meeting will be a silent (unprogrammed) Quaker Meeting for Worship. We will wait in the silence for the presence of the Holy Spirit. There will be no sermon, but there may be Ministry. This Ministry occurs when someone, receiving a message from the Holy Spirit, stands and speaks the message out loud. It is spontaneous, not planned in advance.
This Public Meeting differs slightly from most Meetings for Worship in that we have invited a number of individuals who are known as Recorded Ministers. These are not Ministers as one might find in other denominations. Rather, they are Quakers who have been recognized by their community as having a Gift of Ministry. That is, they are known for effectively receiving and speaking messages in a Meeting for Worship. They may sit on the “facing benches” but this is not a reflection of greater importance. It simply addresses a practical matter of allowing their messages to be better heard.
There is no guarantee that any of the Ministers will speak. In fact, the Holy Spirit can anoint anyone. All participants in a Meeting for Worship, whether longtime Quakers or first-time-attenders, must listen closely for the Still Small Voice. Anyone hearing this voice has a responsibility to stand and speak the words they have been given.
Doug Gwyn
Doug Gwyn grew up in the pastoral stream of Friends in Indiana. After experiencing a call to ministry in 1968, he attended Union Theological Seminary in New York City, where he began to know unprogrammed Friends better. His training in biblical studies has informed his research and writing on early Friends and on current issues among Friends today. Doug has coined the term “bispiritual” to describe Friends like himself who are engaged and nurtured by both pastoral and unprogrammed Friends, in different ways. After serving as a Friends pastor in Maine, Doug is currently a Friend in Residence at Pendle Hill..
The Friends Folk Club is proud to announce a return performance by singer Jen Chapin, on Saturday, June 3rd at 7:30 pm
Jen Chapin's music is urban folk soul -- story songs that search for community and shared meaning, powered by the funk and improvisation of the city. Critics have hailed her work as "brilliant.. soulfully poetic" (NPR), "thoughtful.. worth-savoring" (People), "addictive" (Boston Globe), "smart, observant, lyrically deft, politically aware and emotionally intuitive" (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel).
