Proper pruning of shrubs and trees improves their structure and health while enhancing their appearance in the landscape. In this hands-on workshop, learn basic pruning principles, how to make proper cuts, the best times of year to prune different species, and how to select and maintain tools. Gain the ability to shape and form your plantings in a more naturalistic, appealing way. Be prepared to walk outdoors and bring your lunch, work gloves, and hand pruners.
Anne Brennan is the Horticulture Supervisor at the Ambler Arboretum of Temple University. She is a Certified Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture and says pruning is one of her favorite garden tasks.

This year’s theme, “A Change of Course,” focuses on pressing issues surrounding water. The films aim to inspire dialogue and encourage change in the way people interact with the environment, said a press release from the Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County (TLC).
The two-night festival of short films, sponsored nationally by Patagonia, will be held at the Chester County Historical Society in West Chester on Thursday, Feb. 25, and Friday, Feb. 26. Doors open at 6 p.m. for hors d'oeuvres and local brews, with films beginning at 7 p.m., the release said.
Tickets are $25 per night or $45 for both nights. This festival historically sells out and features stellar filmmaking that combines stunning cinematography and first-rate storytelling to take the audience on an adventurous ride to remote areas of the world.

Watch art come to life at the Brandywine River Museum of Art on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27. In the atrium of the museum, visitors will have an opportunity to view artists who are painting during Plein Air Inside Out.
Unionville High School’s gymnasium is hosting the 21st Unionville High School PTO Used Book Sale, starting on Friday, Feb. 26. Donated by a diverse group of avid readers, the approximately 80,000 books cover a wide variety of genres, including children’s books, art books and classics. The used book sale is the high school PTO's primary fundraiser and allows the PTO to support enrichment projects to enhance the educational experience. Sale hours are Friday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a half-hour break to prepare for the $10 bag sale from 3 to 5 p.m.
Along with our award winning Friday Best of Philly half price burgers in the bar and tavern, we will offer a crab cake burger. The sandwich will be served on a buttery, brioche bun with a lemon caper aioli. Remember, we do not take reservations in the bar and tavern room.

Substitute these invasive plants with native trees, shrubs, and perennials that feature multi-seasonal interest, support songbirds, and provide wildlife habitat. With the knowledge gained in this class, make the transformation from an ecological desert to a beautiful, bountiful oasis, one plant at a time. The snow date is Thursday, March 3.
Teens ages 12 to 18 can get warmed up for this summer's Maker Camp on every Wednesday in March. A team of volunteers from Chatham Financial will be leading teens in various tech projects, from basic electricity to using an API. Teens will learn valuable tech skills while having tons of fun.

Learn the secrets to capturing botanical photographs at the Chadds Ford Historical Society.
To get us in the mood for spring, botanical photographer David Ward will be presenting on "The Aesthetics of Botanical Photography." A teacher of botanical photography at Longwood Gardens, Ward will share some of his tips of how he has captured flowers and other botanical subjects. His lecture with deal with fundamental issues of aesthetics, such as the nature of beauty, the relationship between form and content, problems of evaluation of art, and issues of abstraction in art.
Admission is $10 for non-members and free for members.
Interested in another lecture in the series? Our final one will be on March 22 and will feature local historian and author Gene Pisasale as Colonel Alexander Hamilton. His lecture titled "Alexander Hamilton: Architect of the American Financial System" will shed light on one of the most important, yet least understood of the Founding Fathers. Alexander Hamilton memorabilia from Pisasale’s personal collection will be on view. Don’t expect Gene Pisasale to rap or dance, but he will entertain and enlighten as he appears in full Continental Army officer's uniform to share the story of Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804).
On Tuesday, March 8 at 8 pm New Zealand’s Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra brings its unique mix of humor, disarmingly small instruments, and musicality to Longwood. Tickets are $38 or $32 for Members and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999 or visiting ticketphiladelphia.org.

Teens ages 12 to 18 can get warmed up for this summer's Maker Camp on every Wednesday in March. A team of volunteers from Chatham Financial will be leading teens in various tech projects, from basic electricity to using an API. Teens will learn valuable tech skills while having tons of fun.
