The first Wednesday of the month, we will have our 18th century dance class.  The class is open to all, novice to experienced. There is no fee and you are welcome with or without a partner.  The classes run from 7:15 PM to approximately 9:00 PM and we adjourn for a short break and light refreshments midway through the evening.  The dress is casual, modern clothing; period garb is definitely not required or encouraged at these lessons.

The classes are held each month at the "Barn" of the Chadds Ford Historical Society.  The Barn is located approximately one half mile north of Route 1 at 1736 Creek Road (old Route 100) in Chadds Ford, PA.  If you are driving north on Creek Road from Route 1, the Barn is on your left hand side directly across from the John Chad house.  You should pass the Barn building, make a left into the parking lot, drive around the back of the building and enter through the large gray double doors between the round stone pillars.  Come up the stairs to the main floor and turn right into the large meeting room where we practice.

The class has been taught each month for many years by Laura Bailey to the delight of her many students.  Laura makes the trip from Lancaster each month to teach in Chadds Ford.  She also teaches similar classes in Carlisle, PA and in New Castle, DE.

Recently the group has been meeting at a local restaurant for an "after dance" drink, dessert or dinner.  If your schedule permits, please plan to join us after the dance for a pleasant social hour to unwind at mid-week.

First Friday Art Stroll --  from 6 to 9 p.m.

Historic Kennett Square celebrates the month of March with the Art Stroll in the downtown this Friday! The public is invited to visit the unique, independently-owned shops, galleries, and restaurants and enjoy special exhibits, delicious food, and refreshments throughout the downtown.

Chester County Department of Community Development, in conjunction with the Fair Housing Rights Center in Southeastern Pennsylvania, will be hosting a Community Fair Housing Workshop on "How to Eliminate Discriminatory Practices: Fair Housing Basics" on Monday, April 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Chester County Library. Hilary Bowen, education, outreach and development coordinator for the Fair Housing Rights Center in Southeastern Pennsylvania will provide an overview of the Fair Housing Law, prohibited activities and related laws. Any interested community member is invited to attend; RSVP by March 27 at 610-344-6900 or [email protected].

The Chester County Citizens for Climate Protection (4CP) presents "An Evening with Judy Wicks, Local Economies & Socially Responsible Businesses," on Monday, April 6, at West Chester University Ware Recital Hall, Swope Music Building, 817 S. High Street, West Chester.     A reception with light refreshments will follow the presentation at 7 p.m.  Wicks is an entrepreneur, author and speaker working to build a more compassionate, environmentally sustainable and locally based economy. Her book Good Morning Beautiful Business: the Unexpected Journey of an Activist Entrepreneur and Local Economy Pioneer won the 2014 Gold Medal in the category of “Business Leadership” from Nautilus Book Awards. As an entrepreneur she is best known for Philadelphia’s landmark White Dog Cafe, which she founded in 1983 and became a leader in the local food movement.

 Doctor Lecture Focuses of Eating and Exercise for the Family

 West Grove, PA -- Eating and exercise both very much affect our health and quality of life. But, sometimes it’s hard to know what practices and guidelines are helpful and what, among the wealth of information that’s available, is based on good science. Join Jennersville Regional Hospital for a free seminar featuring family physician Stefanie Steiner, D.O., as she presents Family Eating and Exercise 101.

The lecture is set for Thursday, April 9, 6:30 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, 815 E. Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. As part of the evening, a representative from BeeFit will offer a taste testing of some healthy family favorites. Registration is required as space is limited.

A certified fitness instructor as well as family physician, Dr. Steiner is a provider at Family Practice Associates of Southern Chester County. She is board-certified and a member of Jennersville Regional Hospital Medical Staff. Dr. Steiner received her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency training for Family Practice at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She has been practicing since 2003 and recently joined Family Practice Associates of Southern Chester County with offices in Kennett Square and West Grove.

Slow Art Day
Saturday, April 11, discussion at 1 p.m.
This global event has a simple mission: help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art. One day each year people all over the world visit local museums to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together over lunch to talk about their experience.

Saturday April 11^th a Zumbathon©-for-a-Cause takes place at Grove United Methodist Church, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

All ages 8 and over are welcome to come for 2 hours of fast-paced aerobic exercise to music, led by 6-7 certified Zumba© instructors in tag-team style. (Yes, there is a mid-way water/rest break and yes, you can drop out at any time for any length of time. Water is provided.)

The event benefits women and children in Africa’s very poor country of Malawi and is in partnership with HomeAID for Africa, a local 501C3. Advanced registration (by April 8) is $15, at-door is $17. Open to everyone aged 8-100, with parental participation required for those aged 8-12.   Doctor Lecture focuses on High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

"One Plastic Bag: Isatou Ceesay and the Recycling Women of the Gambia" by Miranda Paul tells the inspiring story of five women who creatively dealt with their village’s plastic trash problem. Family Support Line has dedicated the past 25 years to preventing and treating child sexual abuse.  New this spring, Family Support Line will open the Delaware County Children’s Advocacy Center. The Delaware County Children's Advocacy Center will provide a victim-focused response to abuse so children and families are able to heal. This program will coordinate investigations with law enforcement, child protection agencies, prosecutors, mental health and medical professionals, and victim advocates to work together when investigating allegations of child sexual abuse in Delaware County.
